Principal Message

Dear Marshall Road Families,

This week our school community will be focusing on the character strength of Integrity.  Integrity means you are honest and speak the truth. You present yourself genuinely and sincerely.  Integrity is doing the right thing when nobody is watching.

This is also an exciting week to enjoy the fall weather and participate as you are able in the MRES Bike/Run/Walk to Breakfast day tomorrow, October 17 and in our PTA Fall Grounds Clean Up event this Saturday, October 21, 9:00-11:00 am.  More on both events and other fun and important items below!

Let’s join together to encourage our Roadrunners to grow in the character strength of integrity at home and school.

Much peace.

Matthew Chapman, Sue Kirby and Antoinette Nauflett

Book Character Pumpkin Patch

Are you getting into all things fall??  Or maybe you are looking for something to help you feel festive??  If so, you might be interested in participating in Marshall Road’s first ever Book Character Pumpkin Patch!  Starting on Monday, October 30, we will be decorating the MRES Library with painted/decorated pumpkins representing some of our favorite books and book characters.  This is an optional and just for fun activity that some of our teachers, staff, and students will be participating in.  Families are welcome to decorate and paint a pumpkin at home too!  If you would like to decorate a pumpkin at home, just be sure it represents a book or book character (google “Book Character Pumpkins'' for inspiration!).  Please bring in your completed pumpkin AND either a printout of the book cover or the name of the book your pumpkin represents (written on a piece of paper is fine) between Thursday October 26 - Monday October 30.  Pumpkins can be dropped off in the main office or in the Library.  Contact Librarian, Lisa Hoffman, with any questions/concerns: lahoffman@fcps.edu.

PTA Update

Join us on Tuesday for Bike/Walk/Run to Breakfast!

All MRES students and their families are invited to attend Bike/Walk/Run to Breakfast tomorrow!  Meet at Meadow Lane Park at 8:00 am or come directly to the blacktop at 8:30 am.

BIKE: The Bike Train will depart from Meadow Lane Park at 8:15 am.  Mayor Colbert, the Town of Vienna Police, and Trek Fairfax will join the Bike Train.

WALK: Walk from home (maybe try a new route!)

RUN: The "Marshall Road Runners" will depart Meadow Lane Park at 8:10 am.

BREAKFAST: The PTA will be serving bagels, fruit, and coffee/juice on the blacktop in front of the school from 8:30-9:15 am.

This is a great opportunity to meet and mingle with other MRES families and students.  Please note that all children need to be accompanied by a parent/guardian at breakfast - do not send your child unsupervised.  Please consider signing up here to help with this event.

InCourage Martial Arts Fairfax is having a Glow Dodgeball event for Marshall Road students.  Space is limited.  100% of proceeds go to Marshall Road PTA!

Children will get some exercise playing glow dodgeball and enjoy a pizza dinner.  Please bring a water bottle, wear a white shirt, and non-slip socks.  Ages 5-12 welcome.

The event is this Friday, October 20, 6:30-8:30 pm.  Cost is $35 per child.  Register here

Fall Garden Clean Up: Come and Connect with Fellow MRES Families while Revitalizing Our School Grounds!

Join us for a morning of community and school beautification on Saturday, October 21 from 9:00-11:00 am!  This event promises fun for the whole family*, and we'll even keep you fueled with donuts and cider.  Sign up here.

Activities will include sprucing up our raised garden beds and sowing winter cover crops to prepare for the season ahead.  We'll also tackle some weeding and mulching to make our school grounds shine.

Please consider bringing your own gloves and gardening tools if you have them (don't worry if you don't, we have some available to borrow).  Dress comfortably in clothes that you don't mind getting a little dirty.

Let's come together and make our school grounds a more beautiful place for everyone to enjoy!  We can't wait to see you there.

*By signing up, parents take responsibility for the safety and supervision of their children
