Pandas in Action
At GBW, we are so proud of our specialists who help provide a very full and rich learning experience by providing students access to a variety of different disciplines not typically taught in the homeroom class. This week, we wanted to highlight a few of our music and art teachers who are doing amazing work for our students every week. Thank you to Mrs. Giglio, Mrs. Hentz, Mrs. Fillers, and Mrs. Martin (shown in pictures from left to right) who have gone above and beyond to help make our specials truly special.
Mr. Blount and Mr. Cook
Inside the Classroom
Grades 4-6 began recorder instruction earlier in the 1st quarter. The recorder is a genuine musical instrument that can produce quality sound and is easy for every student to play. In addition to the recorder being a valid instrument itself, it is also an excellent pre-band or pre-orchestra instrument. It is used in the general music class with voices and in combination with other instruments. It is a useful tool in teaching students to read music. Thank you to our general music teachers (Mrs. Giglio and Mrs. Hentz) for helping to make music instruction so much fun!
Tree Plantings at GBW
Students last Friday had a chance to help plant eight new Redbud and Serviceberry Trees at Greenbriar West ES thanks to the Urban Forestry Division! These trees were donated by by the Urban Forestry Division in a partnership with our school to help plant more trees in Fairfax County. We are so grateful for our new trees and our students are so proud of our beautiful school grounds. Ms. Landry's class helped to name this tree the "LanTree".
Federal Impact Aid Survey: Now Online
FCPS is asking all families to fill out the Federal Impact Aid Survey for each school-aged child in every household. To make it easier, the form is available online in SIS ParentVUE this year. This is important, because information from this survey results in an additional $3 million in grants each year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers. For more information, visit the Federal Impact Aid Survey page or contact GBW’s office assistant Kay Billman if you have any questions at kbillman@fcps.edu .
