Hello Shrevewood Families,
We have had a event filled week here at Shrevewood! It was great to see so many parents yesterday at our AAP Parent Information Sessions, as well as all of the parent chaperones today for our 4th and 6th grade field trips! We appreciate your support.
Our School Improvement and Innovation Plan has been posted to the Shrevewood site. We will monitor and report on the progress of these goals with our staff and community quarterly. Have a great Friday and weekend!
Sincerely,
Joshua DeSmyter, Principal
Katie Vandawalker, Assistant Principal
Thank you to the families who join us for the AAP Parent Information Sessions on October 18. If you were unable to come to one of the sessions, you may access the information presented in the slides linked here. Slides in Spanish are available in two parts. Spanish part 1 and Spanish part 2.
You may use this link to locate all AAP Forms, including translated referrals for Spanish, Farci, Korean, Chinese, Urdu, and Vietnamese. We have the English forms linked below for easy access.
Here is the AAP Full Time Services Referral Form. The Parent Questionnaire is only necessary when referring for Full Time Services. Only students in 2nd-7th grade may be referred for full time services. AAP Full Time Services referrals are due to April Done no later than December 15th.
Students in K-6th may be referred for Subject Specific Differentiated Services and Part Time Services designated referral form.
Finally, you will also find the AAP Program of Services Chart. This chart provides an overview of the services provided.

- Return to the main office to check-out using your sticker.
- Lunch visitors should not go to the classroom or recess, so our daily schedule and routines can continue for our students.
- We ask that you not bring fast food for lunch.
- Please do NOT bring any food to share with other children, due to safety protocols and allergies.
October is National Bullying Awareness Month. Our counselors are focusing their classroom lessons this month around bullying and the role of the bystander. If your child reports being bullied, here are the recommended steps to follow.
Here you will see the selected Portrait of a Graduate (POG) attributes selected by each SWES grade level. The grade levels also noted the skills they will intentionally integrate in preparation for Presentations of Learning (POL) at the end of the year. The POL is a small group conversation that each student will participate in with their teacher. In this conversation, the student will share their personal growth in one or more skills and reference the evidence they collected throughout the year to prove that growth. They will also share why that growth matters!
Look for these attributes & skills visible inside classrooms and within the hallways of Shrevewood! We hope you will also look for ways to connect some of your home conversations to these attributes and skills.
In the spring, we will have an evening school-wide event to Celebrate our Learning in these attributes and skills. Stay tuned for those details later in the year.
Whether students miss school because of illness or any other reason, missing school leads to learning loss.
Help your student succeed by encouraging them to attend as many days as possible, but do make sure your student stays home if they are sick. Visit FCPS’ website for information on when you should keep your child at home.
If your child has a chronic illness, please notify his/her teacher, so assistance can be provided if needed. Please contact us as soon as you know your child will be absent.
Read more about how families can help form good attendance habits.
We are excited to be ready to paint the Blacktop near the playground with some new and exciting games and activities for all kids to enjoy! We have the stencils and paint---now we need YOU! Put on your painting clothes and come over to spend a couple hours painting with us on November 6 or 7. Middle and High school volunteers are welcome but we ask that they be accompanied by a parent (1 adult for no more than 3 volunteers) to help guide their work.
Head to this Sign Up Genius and spread the word! Please note that we will communicate any weather related challenges via email to any volunteers registered via the Sign Up Genius.
This week our school community will be focusing on the character strength of Creativity. Creativity means you come up with new and original ways to think about and do things.
Creative people can look at the world in original ways. They are open to new experiences, and have an imaginative and independent thought process. They generate lots of different ideas and can pursue them with energy and enthusiasm. Creativity is a process that takes courage. Anytime you share your original ideas with the world, you risk being criticized or even ostracized.
On a group level, creativity is vital. It helps us solve seemingly impossible problems, create something we never knew we wanted, or simply see the world in a new way. Technological examples include the printing press, refrigeration, electricity, automobiles, and the internet. Just think of what we’d be missing without Renaissance art, Enlightenment thinking, Harlem Renaissance jazz, or hip-hop emerging from the South Bronx in the 1970s and 80s.
To practice and encourage the character strength of creativity with your child, please visit the Positivity Project’s P2 for Families (password: P2) where together you will watch a video, read a quote and talk about the answers to three questions.
