Message from Mrs. Durso

Oak Hill Family,

Our deepest strength in Fairfax County Public Schools is our diversity. We bring together the beauty of cultures and traditions that span the globe. When there is violence in other parts of the world, it is felt deeply in our schools. The horrifying images of violence in the Middle East continue to play out on the news, on our social media feeds, and deeply in our hearts and minds. Our community is hurting. Our schools must be safe spaces for every student. This starts by collectively committing to denounce all acts of antisemitism, islamophobia, and hatred in any form. We must hold on to shared values of empathy, compassion, and respect for all people.

We recognize that students must be empowered to share their thoughts and feelings about what is happening in our nation and the world, and how it impacts their lives. We will continue to provide students safe space to share feelings and dialogue, and provide resources from our mental health professionals. Oak Hill is a place of belonging where every student’s identity matters as much as their safety. We are prepared to respond in support of any who need it.

Congratulations Mrs. Prillaman - School Based Technology Specialist

Federal Impact Aid Surveys

Each year FCPS receives approximately $3 Million federal Impact Aid grants based on the number of federally connected students that attend FCPS schools.  To calculate these funds, FCPS uses the Student-Parent Federal Impact Aid Survey.

The surveys are to be completed online through ParentVue this year. The survey is now available on ParentVue. Once logged in, please select the “Online Packets” tab at the top, then select “Federal Impact Aid Survey” from the drop down menu. The deadline for online surveys is Monday, October 30.

For questions regarding the Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid, please call 703-329-7750 or email ImpactAid@fcps.edu or visit https://www.fcps.edu/impact.  Additional information about Impact Aid programs and grants is available on the U.S. Department of Education's website at DoED Impact Aid Programs.

Have questions or need a ParentVue account? Contact Katherine Dillard, Student Information Assistant/Registrar, by email: kjdillard1@fcps.edu.

Lexia Parent Night

FCPS funds Lexia for all elementary and middle schools to use as part of their literacy instruction. Lexia is a computer-based program that supplements classroom instruction to help students develop literacy skills. It also provides teachers with the data to identify students who need additional support, and the ability to know which specific concepts and skills to prioritize. Attend an information night to learn more about Lexia and how FCPS is integrating it into the classroom. Parents/caregivers will also get tips for supporting their students at home.

Information nights will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on:

  • Wednesday, October 18, at Thoreau Middle School (Cafeteria).
  • Thursday, October 19, at Edison High School (Auditorium).

Register to attend or submit a question in advance.

Integrating Lexia into the literacy curriculum aligns with the Virginia Literacy Act, FCPS’ Equitable Access to Literacy, and Strategic Plan Goal 3, which aims to have all students reading on level by the end of third grade.
