Ms. Mirnaly Vega

Dear Sleepy Hollow Families,

I have recently returned from a national conference, Association of Latino Administrators and Superintendents that took place in San Antonio, Texas. It was a wonderful experience and an opportunity to network with other school divisions outside of Virginia and share best practices in elementary schools. I am also excited to share important and fun events at Sleepy Hollow this month. I enjoy so much meeting families and seeing our students at these events. I wish everyone a joyful week ahead and good health as we transition from hot days to cool and breezy Autumn days.

With gratitude,

Your Proud Admin Team,

Mirnaly Vega and Tim Scesney

Principal and Assistant Principal

Sleepy Hollow Library News

Students are so glad to be back in the library!  We are all getting used to school routines so we are starting out slow as students get back into the habit of bringing their books back every week.  Thank you for helping your children take good care of their borrowed books so the books can be returned safely and on time – keep books away from pets and young children, keep food and drink away from books, and consider having a dedicated spot for borrowed books so they can be found easily to return on time as well as staying safe.  Or have your child get into the habit of keeping library books in their backpacks (if so, please make sure there is no food and drink in the backpack with the books!).  Please let our librarian know if you have any questions at beoswalt@fcps.edu or call the library at 703-237-7006.  Happy reading!

Strategic Plan/Literacy

  • 📖 Students Reading by the Third Grade

During the Academic Matters and strategic plan update segments of Thursday’s School Board meeting, Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid presented on the divisionwide target to have students reading by third grade.

FCPS has continued to improve its approach to reading over the last several years through our Equitable Access to Literacy (EAL) plan. Reading by third grade is also one of the measures of Goal 3: Academic Growth and Excellence in our 2023-30 strategic plan

By focusing on foundational skills for our young readers and literacy intervention for upper grades, FCPS has made significant progress towards narrowing the achievement gaps in this critical skill. Visit the Strategic Plan webpage for more information.
