Principal Message

Dear Marshall Road Families,

We hope you enjoyed the long weekend and the lovely fall weather it brought.

Yesterday, our staff was busy extending our learning about how we support student growth and reflecting on specific Portrait of a Graduate Skills through activities that lead to Presentations of Learning.  We spent time considering how equity, the FCPS Strategic Plan, and our School Improvement and Innovation Plan connect in actionable ways as we work with your children.  Staff also planned for the remainder of the 1st quarter which ends on November 3.  If you have not already done so, please contact your child’s teacher to schedule a Parent / Teacher Conference.

Much peace.

Matthew Chapman, Sue Kirby and Antoinette Nauflett

School Events & Information

Book Character Pumpkin Patch

Are you getting into all things fall??  Or maybe you are looking for something to help you feel festive??  If so, you might be interested in participating in Marshall Road’s first ever Book Character Pumpkin Patch!  Staring on Monday, October 30, we will be decorating the MRES Library with painted/decorated pumpkins representing some of our favorite books and book characters.  This is an optional and just for fun activity that some of our teachers, staff, and students will be participating in.  Families are welcome to decorate and paint a pumpkin at home too!  If you would like to decorate a pumpkin at home, just be sure it represents a book or book character (google “Book Character Pumpkins” for inspiration!).  Please bring in your completed pumpkin AND either a printout of the book cover or the name of the book your pumpkin represents (written on a piece of paper is fine) between Thursday October 26 - Monday October 30.  Pumpkins can be dropped off in the main office or in the Library.  Contact Librarian, Lisa Hoffman, with any questions/concerns: lahoffman@fcps.edu.

Fall Picture Day

Picture Day is Thursday, October 12.  Pictures will be available for viewing online approximately two weeks following our school's photo day.  You may pre-order or place your order after viewing online here.  Questions?  Please email underclass@vosphoto.com.

Fall Garden Cleanup: Come and Connect with Fellow MRES Families while Revitalizing Our School Grounds!

Join us for a morning of community and school beautification on Saturday, October 21 from 9:00-11:00 am!  This event promises fun for the whole family*, and we'll even keep you fueled with donuts and cider.  Sign up here

Activities will include sprucing up our raised garden beds and sowing winter cover crops to prepare for the season ahead.  We will also tackle some weeding and mulching to make our school grounds shine.  Please consider bringing your own gloves and gardening tools if you have them (don't worry if you don't, we have some available to borrow).  Dress comfortably in clothes that you don't mind getting a little dirty.

Let's come together and make our school grounds a more beautiful place for everyone to enjoy! We can't wait to see you there.

*By signing up, parents take responsibility for the safety and supervision of their children.

Marshall Road Directory

We are delighted to announce that a new student directory will be available for the 2023-2024 school year, sponsored by the PTA.  The directory will be in PDF format and will contain information such as the names and emails of teachers/staff, student names, and parent/guardian emails.  The directory is exclusively for the private use of Marshall Road Elementary School families.  It cannot be reproduced, sold, or used for any commercial purposes whatsoever.

Having a student directory is a wonderful way to promote communication and community among parents and students, which has a variety of benefits for everyone involved.  For example, parents/guardians can facilitate playdates, send party invitations, and support extracurricular activities.

If you do not want your information or your student's information to be included in the directory, please return the Opt-Out form to the MRES front office by Friday, October. 13, 2023.  If you select the Comprehensive Opt-Out Option or the Limited Opt-Out Choice A, your student’s information and your contact information will not be included in the student directory.

Stay Informed and Get Connected!
