Bus Expectations and Supporting our Drivers
As parents and guardians, you should expect that your child will travel safely and be treated respectfully while on the school bus. With this in mind, it is important that your child knows the behavioral expectations for themselves and others while riding on the school bus. Our bus drivers are asking that you partner with them by reviewing Appendix B: Standards of Student Conduct for Students Riding Buses (SR&R page 43) with your child. In particular, ensuring your bus rider follows the directions of their driver, remains in their seat, and is being respectful of other passengers should be points of emphasis within your discussion.
In support of student well-being on the bus, our Floris drivers will be provided with a seating chart to aid them in assigning bus seats should student conduct warrant such action. Please be aware that bus drivers are afforded the ability to assign temporary seating assignments for behaviors that violate the SR&R especially if they impact student safety. Administrators may also assign long-term seating if student misconduct is severe or repetitious.
Our drivers will tell you that they love driving for Floris. They carry a large responsibility each day. Thank you for supporting them by speaking with your bus rider about how they can best support and respect their bus driver every time they step onto the bus.
Bicycle Safety On and Off School Grounds
Many thanks to our parents and guardians who continue to support bicyclists with the expectation of dismounting while on school property. Our students dismounting along the short path between Mustang Drive and school property has also made a difference with overall safety for bicyclists and walkers.
To take it one step further, we also ask that parents and guardians review some rules of the road with their children such as wearing bicycle helmets and dismounting before entering intersections and traffic areas. Centreville Road and Mustang Drive are busy streets and it’s important that we work together as a community to ensure students arrive to and from school safely each day.
