PTSA Meeting: Tuesday, 10/10 at 7:00 pm in the Library
October 11 - Please see below for further details
- All freshmen students will have an unscheduled day and do not report to school on this day. Students should take this opportunity to get caught up on any school work, in addition the Student Services Department will be posting some college and career readiness lessons and activities that the students may participate in.
- All sophomores and juniors are expected to take the PSAT’s. See important information below.
- Only seniors who have registered to take the SAT’s need to attend school on this day. See important information below.
PSAT/NMSQT: October 11 (2-hour early release)
- FCPS will be offering the PSAT/NMSQT to students in grades 10 and 11 on October 11. Registration is not required and there is no cost for students.
- Starting this year, the PSAT/NMSQT is a digital test. Students are required to use their FCPS-managed device for this test. Students who do not have a FCPS-device will be provided one on test day.
- Students will participate in a Digital Readiness Check on October 2. They should bring their FCPS-Chromebook to 4th period that day.

SAT School Day: October 11 (2-hour early release)
- Only seniors who registered for the SAT School Day will be participating in the test on October 11.
- If a student has decided not to take the SAT School Day, they should contact Mrs. Frate.
- The SAT School Day is a paper test.
- Students should plan to bring a graphing calculator, #2 pencils (not mechanical), and snacks/water.

- Students have the option to send 4 score reports for free the day of the test. For more information on sending SAT scores, visit the College Board website.

Attendance
- As a reminder, if you have called in or submitted a late arrival for your student, they must still check in at the attendance office before going to class. Detailed procedures and policies regarding attendance can be found on the JMHS Website.
AP Test Opt-Out Timeline and Fees
- Students will receive AP Opt-Out forms on Friday, October 6 through Advisory.
- FCPS encourages all students to take AP tests for courses in which they are enrolled. However, students will have the opportunity to opt-out of the test(s) by filling out an Opt-Out form. Students must submit any Opt-Out forms by Monday, October 16 to Student Services.
- As in previous years, the fees for the first six AP tests taken for courses in which students are enrolled for high school credit will be paid for by FCPS. Students taking AP tests without enrolling in the corresponding FCPS course are responsible for the test fee(s). More information here. Parents will be billed a $98 non-refundable test fee in December 2022 for tests that exceed the six FCPS funded tests.

Senior Baby Ads
- Online Senior Ad creation is now available! To purchase an ad for your senior, go to YearbookOrderCenter.com, enter 5307 and then select “Start Your Ad.” You may choose a half, quarter, eighth, or sixteenth page ad. The deadline to purchase and create a Senior Ad for the yearbook is Saturday, November 11, 2023.
- The editors request that you please adhere to the following standards:
- Type your senior’s name in the large font so that it is the “centerpiece” of the ad
- Feel free to include a message in the smaller available font (check for spelling)
- Please choose a different template if your message does not fill the entire space (if there is white space left over)
- Pricing for Senior Ads:
- 1/2 page Color: $225
- 1/4 page Color: $120
- 1/8 page Color: $70
- 1/16 page Color: $35
National Honor Society
- Applications are now being accepted for JMHS National Honor Society inductees for all eligible Juniors (Class of 2025) and Seniors (Class of 2024). Applicants must have a 3.50 minimum GPA and have no disciplinary or Honor Code violations. Students can access the application materials through the candidates’ Schoology group.
- The join code is: DTMH-QJ4W-4CTJF. Please note that students are joining a group and not a course. The application and all relevant materials can be found under the “Resources” tab.
- Completed applications are due no later than Tuesday, October 10.
