The WFES Wolfpack made history by CRUSHING the Howling Wolf Fun Run Goal of $35k by raising well over $46,000+! Countless laps were run, gallons of water were consumed, and the love for WFES was apparent on all of those smiling faces! We also had an astounding participation rate, with 72% of students obtaining at least one donation. Because of these awesome efforts, the PTA is in an excellent position to fund empowering programs that benefit all WFES students this year–we can’t wait, and thank you!

The Impact Aid Program is a federal grant program designed to directly compensate local school districts that have been financially impacted by federal activities. The program's mission is to reimburse local school districts for local revenues lost due to the presence of federally owned and therefore tax-exempt property. Your support in identifying students with federal connections will ensure that FCPS can obtain its fair share of grant funds from this program. See below for a new procedure for filling out forms:

The beginning of the school year is an ideal time to be reminded about head lice and its treatment. Although lice do not spread disease, they can be a nuisance and cause great concern in the community.
What are head lice?
Head lice are small, wingless parasitic insects about the size of a sesame seed that feed on blood on the human scalp. Head lice are very quick and use a hook-like claw to stay attached to the hair.
What are nits? Nits are lice eggs laid by adult female lice. They are white oval sacs about the size if a pin head. The life cycle of head lice is approximately 30 days during which time each female louse can lay up to 7-10 nits a day.
Who gets head lice? ANYONE can get head lice! It is most common in pre-school and elementary school-aged children (ages 3-12) and females. Kids are much more likely to get lice from family members and playmates than from classmates at school.
How do they spread? DIRECT contact with an infested person. INDIRECT contact with personal belongings of an infested person such as brushes, combs, clothing, bedding, upholstered furniture and car interiors.
Signs & Symptoms Itching and scratching...on the back of the scalp, neck, and behind the ears. Sores on the head...caused by scratching. Visible lice or nits. REMEMBER: nits stick to the hair. Some children may have no symptoms. Don’t confuse dirt or dandruff with nits.
During SY 22-23, Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) and the Fairfax County Health Department (FCHD) updated the Head Lice Guidelines to be in alignment with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The following resources are available for parents/guardians to learn more about lice and its treatment:
If a student is found to have head lice you should contact any playmates or close friends outside of school as well as your pediatrician and the school health room.
Would you like to be part of the WFES Green Team? All students and guardians are welcome.
Our mission is to encourage student driven environmental stewardship through hands-on activities in our school and community. These activities might include reducing waste, conserving energy, planting and maintaining wildlife habitats or tending to gardens. We will have our first meeting Thursday, November 2, 2023 at 6:30 pm in the cafeteria. Students must be accompanied by an adult. Questions? Contact Mary Muratore- mpmuratore@fcps.edu
