Popsicles with the principals

For Blue Star Welcome week, our military affiliated kids shared popsicles with Mrs. Durso and Mrs. Loewenberg. We are glad you are here!

Message from Mrs. Durso

Oak Hill Wolf Pack,

It's been another great week at Oak Hill! On Friday, we celebrated our military-affiliated students with some extra time on the playground and some tasty popsicles. We are so very grateful for all of our military families and their service to our country.

This week is custodian appreciation week, and our students have been showering our custodial team with messages of love and appreciation. We are so grateful for Mr. Seongkyu Lee, Ms. Rosa Lozano, Ms. Deysi Ayala, Mr. Bang Nghieu, and Mr. Dinh Tran and all that they do to keep Oak Hill beautiful and healthy. Thank you!

Ms. Lahr led our first Principal Coffee this year, focused on the different levels of advanced academics available within FCPS. Thank you, Ms. Lahr! Additionally, our 2nd graders have been releasing our Monarch Butterflies to begin their migration. I was lucky enough to watch them release one just this morning!

Several staff members received FCPS Cares this week:

  • Wendy Parry, Dining Room Assistant & Classroom Monitor
  • Katherine Dillard, School Information Assistant
  • Tori Field, Strings Teacher
  • Denise Russ, Office Assistant

Congratulations Wendy, Katherine, Tori, and Denise! We are so proud of you. If you have a staff member you would like to recognize, please submit an FCPS Cares.

Thank you for all your support of our school! I hope to see you during Chantilly High School's Homecoming Parade on Friday!

In partnership,

Kelly Durso

Principal

Book Fair 2023 Header

The Oak Hill Fall Book Fair is coming up from October 16-20!  Family Night is Tuesday, October 17th from 4:30pm – 7:30pm.  We are so excited to invite you to our beautiful newly renovated library to enjoy the Fair!

Please use the following links to see the Book Fair Website, set up your child’s eWallet account, and for volunteer opportunities to help at the Book Fair.  We accept cash, checks written to Oak Hill Elementary School, eWallets, and credit cards.  The eWallet is very convenient and easy to use.  Each child has a unique link to their eWallet that can be shared with family and friends to add money to their account!

Please email our librarian, Mrs. Dolenc, at mrdolenc@fcps.edu with any questions.  See you at the Book Fair!

Parent Volunteers

We are in need of parent volunteers to help with set-up, running cash registers, and cleaning up.  Friday, October 13th is set-up, Monday, October 16th is preview day (no purchases), and October 17th through 20th are days that students can purchase books.  We will clean up the afternoon of Friday, October 20th. Please email Mrs. Dolenc if you are interested in volunteering.

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener

One of the ways FCPS supports the mental wellness of all students is the SEL Screener.

The screener is offered to all students in grades 3-12 in October and again in February or March. It addresses skills like achieving goals, understanding and managing emotions, establishing and maintaining relationships with adults and peers, and making responsible decisions.

The SEL Screener also helps students evaluate their school community’s efforts to make them feel valued, included, and supported. Screener data is used to create the learning, experiences, and environments students need to be successful. Key updates to the screener this year include:

  • Different versions for students in grades 3-5 and 6-12.
  • Fewer topics with more questions to provide schools and families with more data to support planning.
  • Additional questions aligned with FCPS’ commitment to educational equity.

SEL Screener results are sent to families via postal mail. Families who wish to opt their child out should complete the opt-out form in the Annual Notice packet or in SIS ParentVUE.

For more information, please visit the Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener webpage or contact your child’s school.

Please note that the SEL Screener differs from the anonymous Fairfax County Youth Survey.

Free COVID-19 Tests

Every U.S. household can place an order to receive four more free COVID-19 rapid tests delivered directly to their home.

Review health and safety guidance for schools to stay up to date on the best ways to prevent the spread of disease, and for information on when students should stay home from school.
