Attendance Tip: Scheduling Family Trips or Events

Good attendance is an important life skill that will help students succeed in school and beyond and regular attendance can help students be successful in the classroom, graduate on time, and achieve their life goals.

When scheduling trips or family events, try to use weekends and school holidays, and refer to the FCPS Calendar when planning. Every day of learning is a day toward success. Keep in mind that absences add up quickly. Students who are absent 10% of the school year (or just two days per month) are considered chronically absent.

When possible, schedule appointments for your child outside of school hours. If your child needs to miss school because of an illness or another reason, you must report the absence to their school. Most schools have links to their attendance email or notification systems on their homepages. If you are unsure how to report an absence, please call your school’s front office.

Watch this video with tips on understanding our school calendar and visit our Attendance webpage for additional information. Attend today, achieve tomorrow!

KPES Lost and Found

A new system is in place at KP for helping students reunite with items left at recess. Items left in the playground area at the end of each grade level recess block, will be collected and stored near the classrooms. We are hopeful this strategey will help get items back to their owners the same day and limit the need to sift to large amounts of lost and found items at the school level.

One way famiiles can help is to label their childs jackets, sweaters, etc. Please write your child's name on the tags of their jackets and sweatshirts, as well as labeling their other items like water bottles and lunch boxes. This will support us in swiftly returning items that are unintentionally left behind.

KPES Arrival and Dismissal Safety

Having our KP Lions arrive and dismiss from school safely is our priority. The parking lot for Kiss 'N Ride needs to remain clear of all pedestrians. All walkers need to stay on designated sidewalks and walk around the back on the building to get to doors 2 and 4.

Please take a moment to review these linked rules and the procedure below.

At 8:40am our staff must enter the building and begin providing support and supervision to students. Any cars arriving after 8:40am, will need to park and sign their child in at the main office.

The map shows the drive path during kiss and ride for arrival and dismissal. Entry to Kiss 'N Ride is on Harrow Way and the line circles through the parking lot to the designated Kiss and Ride Doors.

  • Door 7 Green - Kindergarten and Grade 3 students will arrive and dismiss from this door.
  • Door 9 Purple - Grade 1 and Grade 2 students will arrive and dismiss from this door.

If you have children at both Door 7 and Door 9, you will follow the green path to door 7 first, then follow the direction of the Kings Park staff to proceed to Door 9.
