 Dear Stone Families,
Throughout the week, we had a great time celebrating the start of our after school program. Just some quick reminders, late buses arrive at approximately 4:30pm, students should check into the after school program right after school in the cafeteria. For safety reasons, we do not allow students to leave the building and then return to the after school program. If you have any additional questions, please contact our after school program specialist, Nick Anderson.
Stone participated in the first cross country meet of FCPS Middle Schools Sports program this Saturday, September 30th. There is still time for students to join the team, please see Ms. Crumpler or Ms. Silver. Our next meet will be October 14th! Please come out and cheer us on.
Great job to all the runners who represented Stone.

Career Day at Stone MS
We are excited to announce that Stone Middle School will be hosting a Career Day on November 21, 2023 and we would like to invite you to be a part of this exciting event!
Career Day is a fantastic opportunity for our middle school students to gain insights into various professions, explore their interests, and learn about the multitude of career paths available to them in the future. We believe that your participation as a guest speaker or presenter could greatly enrich this experience.
We surveyed our current students for the careers they are most interested in learning more about this year. From the surveys, we learned that our students have indicated four priority career clusters which are:
- Arts, A/V technology and communications (ex. Actor, Production assistant, photographer)
- Information Technology (ex. Computer engineer, software developer, web designer)
- Law, Public Safety, Corrections and Security (ex. Lawyer, legal assistant, police officer)
- Health and Science (ex. Director of nursing, anesthesiologist, dentist)
Purpose of Career Day
- To expose students to a wide range of careers and industries.
- To provide real-world insights and experiences.
- To inspire and motivate students to explore their own career aspirations.
- To emphasize the importance of education and lifelong learning in achieving career goals.
What We Are Looking For
We are seeking volunteers from various professions and backgrounds to share their experiences and knowledge with our students.
You can participate as a guest speaker:
Deliver a presentation about your career, educational background, daily responsibilities, and the path that led you to your current profession.

Attendance/Absenteeism
Good attendance is an important life skill that will help students succeed in school and beyond.
When scheduling trips or family events, try to use weekends and school holidays, and refer to the FCPS Calendar when planning. Every day of learning is a day toward success. Keep in mind that absences add up quickly. Students who are absent 10% of the school year (or just two days per month) are considered chronically absent.
When possible, schedule appointments for your child outside of school hours. If your child needs to miss school because of an illness or another reason, you must report the absence to their school. You can use our online attendance form to report a student absence. If you are unsure how to report an absence, please call your school’s front office.
Watch this video with tips on understanding our school calendar and visit our Attendance webpage for additional information. Attend today, achieve tomorrow!

A student may participate in the exam two times per language, once per year, between grades 7 through 12. In other words, students have two chances per language to earn credits by taking the exam.
