Advanced Academics Information Meeting

Advanced Academic Program Overview and Full-Time AAP Level IV Screening

Date: Tuesday, October 3th

Time: 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Location: Sangster Cafeteria

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is committed to challenging all students through talent development efforts and differentiated instruction to meet the needs of advanced learners.  FCPS offers a continuum of advanced academic services for all students in Grades K-12. The continuum of services approach recognizes unique student needs and focuses on matching services, not labeling students. Through the continuum, students have multiple entry points for deeper learning opportunities in specific areas of need as they develop and a cluster group of students with similar academic needs to continue growing in their learning.

If you’re interested in learning more about FCPS’ AAP program, including an overview of the AAP Continuum of services for all students and/or information regarding the screening process for the full-time Level IV AAP program, please join us for the AAP Information Night on Tuesday, October 3rd. Parents will learn how to refer students in grades 2-6 for the full-time Level IV Advanced Academics Program for the 2024-2025 school  year and have the opportunity to ask questions.

You will find detailed information included the AAP Fall Newsletter sent home in this week’s Thursday folder. If you have any questions, please contact our Advanced Academic Resource Teacher, Linda Biberaj (LBiberaj@fcps.edu).

perspective

This week’s character strength is Perspective. This means you appreciate when people see things in different ways. You have the ability to understand the world from multiple points of view. Perspective is also referred to as wisdom and is distinct from intelligence. People with this strength are sought out for advice because they see the big picture and can make sense of the world’s complexity. This strength of perspective gives individuals the ability to see to the heart of difficult matters and achieve clarity. Most importantly, they are honest and behave in an ethically consistent manner.

The site P2 For Families is available for connecting P2 to your home and you can learn more about the site here. Many of the slides are password protected and the password is P2 (case-sensitive).

blue star welcome week

Blue Star Welcome Week

Blue Star Welcome Week is a nationwide initiative to ensure military families feel a sense of belonging to their school communities. Fairfax County Public Schools will be intentionally celebrating and acknowledging Blue Star Welcome Week.

Blue Star Welcome Week is an opportunity to empower military families to thrive as they serve. There are approximately 14,500 military-connected students enrolled in FCPS. Each year, one-third of our military families transition into or out of our district. Blue Star Welcome Week gives schools an opportunity to welcome and connect with their military families. The goal is to create a sense of belonging and ensure that our military families feel celebrated and welcomed into their school communities.
