Attendance

Dear Parent/Guardian:

School attendance is important! We need your help.  Attending school has a huge impact on student success.

We realize some absences may be due to health issues or other reasons. However, when students are absent for more than two days a month, totaling 18 days or more throughout the school year, there is a potential risk to their academic progress. Both excused and unexcused absences lead to missed instruction time.

Attendance Tips:

  • Avoid scheduling vacations or doctor’s appointments when school is in session. In alignment with FCPS policy, vacations may not be considered excused absences. Please see School Year 2023-2024 FCPS School Calendar to plan trips/vacations during school breaks.
  • Make sure your children keep a regular bedtime and have a morning routine. Research suggests elementary-aged students should be getting 10-12 hours of sleep each night.
  • Turn off all electronics, including TVs, phones and tablets, at bedtime.
  • Make sure clothes and backpacks are ready the night before.
  • Check with our school nurse or office staff if you are not sure about when to keep your child at home due to illness.
  • If your child needs to stay home due to illness, ask your teacher for materials and advice about how to help your child stay involved in learning.
  • Talk to teachers, counselors, and/or school social workers if your child feels anxious about school.
  • Develop back up plans. Call on a family member, neighbor or another parent for help getting your child to school.

Please let us know how we can best support you and your child so that they can show up for school on time every day!

Sincerely,

Saratoga School Attendance Team
