Fun, Fit Friday Tomorrow!
Dear Deer Park Families,
We are excited to begin using our Deer Park track again for our morning community building each week. This year, we will be moving from Mondays to Fridays. As part of our wellness initiative, we invite you and your child(ren) to Fun Fit Friday. Students in all grade levels (PK-6) are welcome to participate, as well as parents and teachers!
Fun Fit Friday will meet on Friday mornings from 8:10 - 8:30 AM beginning on Friday, September 29 and run through Friday, December 1st. We will then resume in March.
This is an excellent opportunity for your child to meet new friends, enjoy the benefits of exercising, and develop an appreciation for fitness. We hope this program builds self-confidence and improves fitness levels among our students and within the community. Everyone is welcome to join us!
If it is raining or the track surroundings are too muddy, then we will cancel for that Friday. There will be communication sent out the morning of by 7:45 a.m. If you do not receive Deer Park News You Choose updates, please sign up at this link: News You Choose
A huge “THANK YOU” to the Deer Park PTA and community for your continued support to make this track possible in partnership with DPES.
We look forward to seeing you on the track!
Sincerely,
Mr. D’Amato and Mrs. Hitz

October 4th is Walk and Roll to school day! This is a great event to promote physical activity, teach safe pedestrian and bicycling skills and awareness of how walkable and bikeable a community is and sharing time with classmates and parents!
It’s fun! Remember the thrill of riding a bike for the first time or walking or rolling to school on the first day? There’s a feeling of joy and independence—a sense of adventure—that doesn’t fade.
If you walk or bike to school on October 4, please enter the school at the front entrance so we can count all our walkers and bikers.
Thank you for your support!
Student Rights and Responsibilities Acknowlegement Due

Each year, we ask parents/caregivers to review and sign the SR&R. The SR&R will be visible upon logging in to SIS ParentVUE until the SR&R acknowledgment has been completed.
Signatures are due by Friday, September 29. Please contact our front office if you are having difficulty accessing the booklet. Visit the SIS ParentVue Account Overview webpage for help logging in to your account.

Red Ribbon Week
Enrique (Kiki) Camarena was a Mexican-American man working for the DEA after formerly serving in various positions such as the Marine Corps, as a fireman, a police officer, and a deputy sheriff in California. In 1985 he had been on assignment in Mexico for four years. And he was on the trail of the country’s biggest marijuana and cocaine traffickers. He was getting close to exposing a multi-billion dollar drug pipeline until he was kidnapped that February. He was headed to lunch with his wife when he was last seen being thrown into a van by masked men. His body wasn’t discovered until a month later.
After his death, “Camarena Clubs” were launched in his hometown of Calexico, California. Hundreds wore red ribbons and pledged to lead a drug-free life in his honor. President Ronald Reagan was in office at the time. The club members presented a proclamation to First Lady Nancy Reagan which brought the red ribbon pledge national attention. The campaign became official in 1988 by the National Family Partnership, President Reagan, and the “Just Say No” creator, Mrs. Reagan, as honorary chairpersons.
Red Ribbon Week is now celebrated annually from October 23-31st.
