CES Weekly News 10.2.23

Principal's Message

Thank you to our Military Connected Families for your service and for those that were able to join us for our first Blue Star Welcome Breakfast.  We hope to continue our ways of working to connect our military connected families.

The school year is moving along quickly as we welcome October. This Thursday we will send home our beginning of year assessment letters for first through sixth grade students. Parents will receive information on reading and math assessment data. Please note below that we will hold a parent coffee to provide additional information around assessment information. A critical component in your child's success is a collaborative home and school partnership to support their growth. We will work to record an overview of the information for parents that cannot join in person.

October brings a kick off to our School Wide House Meetings, Book Fair, Kickball Kickoff, Picture Day, an exciting PTA sponsored assembly, and ending the month with a Not So Typical "Dress Up" Tuesday which will be on 10/31.  Students and staff will be able to dress up on this day, so you may plan ahead for this day now. Traditionally our staff groups will dress in creative themes and students will vote for their favorites.  We look forward to having a great month of learning while showing our Chesterbrook spirit.

Sincerely,

Stacy Kirkpatrick

Arrival and Dismissal Safety

Safely getting your kids dropped off and picked up is imperative. Overall we have had a great year thus far. There are items which help us keep things running smoothly, so we wanted to share with everyone:

  • No LEFT  turns into or out of the kiss n ride lot during these arrival and dismissal. This keeps the traffic moving steadily for drop off and pickup. U-Turns may be safely used by pulling further down Kirby, watching for traffic, and making a U-turn at an opening such as the school drive entrance. Do not make a U-turn on the crosswalk.
  • Students may NOT walk to Starbucks afterschool under any circumstance.  A parent is welcome to pickup students and take them but they must be in the care of a parent or going straight home.
  • Ensure you have entered a default pickup method in Pick Up Patrol.
  • Pick up Patrol changes should be entered by parents before 2PM..  Please refrain from calling the office to ask office staff to enter the change on a regular basis.
  • Please do not drop children off on Kirby Road. You are welcome to park and use the crosswalk to walk your children on the sidewalk.  Walking across the bus loop can be dangerous so we ask that when walking with your children, you also use a safe route on the crosswalk.

Upcoming Parent Coffees

Tuesday 10/17 9:15 AM - Understanding Beginning of the Year Assessment Data - Parent data reports will be sent home in Thursday folders on 10/7. This coffee will help provide further detail to support parents in understanding Reading and Math assessments, the domains that are assessed and how we work to support the needs of students.

Monday 10/23 - 9:15 AM  Digital Citizenship  - October is Cybersecurity Month and Digital Citizenship Week is 10/16-20. Join us for this coffee where we will share the work we do to support students in the school setting, how you can support at home and together we can create a positive culture around how they use media and technology as a learning tool.
