Woodburn Families,

It is a busy time of year for us!  Starting next week, all grade level teachers will be engaging in team data days to analyze student reading and math assessments.  They will use this time to plan for targeted and differentiated small group instruction.

There is also much happening around the building.  See below for more information about Custodian Appreciation Day, Picture Day, PTA Spirit Wear, and more.

You are also welcome to send in a snack or treat for the custodial team to enjoy.  Please have your child bring items to the main office and make sure they are labeled.  Thank you for helping us celebrate and recognize our incredible team.

Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology Science Fair

TJ

Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology will be hosting their 11th annual science fair on March 16, 2024 and are inviting 5th and 6th grade students from Woodburn Elementary to participate. Admission to the science fair is completely free.

Participants will complete a research project of their choice and present at the fair in-person on March 16, 2024. We help students prepare for this fair by holding multiple sessions to teach them important skills in STEM like brainstorming, collecting data, presenting, writing an experiment summary, using statistics, creating an experimental diagram, etc.

Our first interest/brainstorming session is Friday October 6th, 2023 at 6:00 pm. We will be holding this session in-person at TJHSST and virtually. During this session we will go over the goals and guidelines of this fair and introduce students to a multitude of project ideas. All interested students should sign up using the form at the link:https://forms.gle/RMfQYuvACK3YajRw8

Feel free to email tjhsstsciencefair@gmail.com for more information.

Challenged Materials Review Committee

As detailed in Regulation 3009 principals are required to submit a list of individuals who are available to serve on a Challenged Materials Review Committee if a departmental committee is needed.  Names of a teacher, librarian, two parents, and one high school student are required. Parents must not be employed by FCPS and contact information should be provided. High school students will be contacted through their school if needed.

The list of potential committee members will be maintained at the central office.  Names are randomly chosen to serve if a central departmental committee is required to review a challenged material.

Please contact Katy Richman if you are interested in serving on this committee.
