Blue Star Welcome Week
Blue Star Welcome Week is a nation-wide initiative to ensure military families feel a sense of belonging to their school communities. Fairfax County Public Schools will be intentionally celebrating and acknowledging Blue Star Welcome Week.
When: Saturday, September 23 - Sunday, October 1, 2023
Why: Blue Star Welcome Week is an opportunity to empower military families to thrive as they serve. There are approximately 14,500 military-connected students enrolled in FCPS. Each year, one-third of our military families transition into or out of our district. Blue Star Welcome Week gives schools an opportunity to welcome and connect with their military families. The goal is to create a sense of belonging and ensure that our military families feel celebrated and welcomed into their school communities.
At Cameron, we will be celebrating military familes all week with a variety of activities.

Participants will complete a research project of their choice and present at the fair in-person on March 16, 2024. Family Liaison Corner

“At the end of the day, the most overwhelming key to a child’s success is the positive involvement of parents.” Jane D Hull
Dear Families,
We are approaching the Parent/Teacher conferences. This is not only an opportunity to hear about your student's academics but also to get to know your child's teacher and for the teacher to get to know your family. It is not one-way communication. Please take note of all the essential things you would like to share with your child’s teacher. Below, I am sharing some examples of a checklist before, during, and after the conference. Please continue to communicate with your child's teacher during the school year.
Parent-Teacher Conference Checklists
Before the conference
- Ask your child how she feels about school.
- Contact the teacher of Family Liaison if you need an interpreter
- Ask your child if there is anything that he wants you to talk about with his teacher.
- Tell your child you and the teacher are meeting to help her.
- Make a list of topics you want to discuss with the teacher.
- Prepare a list of questions such as:
- What are my child's strongest and weakest subjects? 2. Does my child hand homework in on time? 3. Does my child participate in class? 4. Does my child seem happy at school? 5. What can I do at home to help?
During the conference
- Be on time (or early) for the meeting.
- End the meeting on time. Other parents will probably have a conference after yours.
- Relax and be yourself
- Ask the most important questions first.
- If your child receives special services such as English classes, ask about your child's progress in those classes.
- Share with the teacher about your child’s personality
- Ask about the best method of communication
- Ask for explanations of anything you don't understand
- Ask your child's teacher for ways that you can help your child at home.
- Thank the teacher.
After the conference
- Talk about the conference with your child.
- Talk about the positive points and be direct about problems.
- Tell your child about any plans you and the teacher created.
- Keep in touch with the teacher during the school year.

✨ 2023-30 Strategic Plan — Goal 5: Leading for Tomorrow's Innovation
The 2023-30 strategic plan sets five student-centered goals to create positive change in FCPS. These five goals show where we should focus our attention and will help us align our efforts.
Under Goal 5, every student will graduate ready to thrive in life after high school with the skills they need to navigate, adapt, and innovate for a sustainable future. Using data gathered from students, we will ensure they are ready for a wide variety of options for their futures.
