Photo collage of families, students, and staff at Back to School Night

Our Back to School Night was a huge success! It was wonderful connecting with all of our families. The home-to-school partnership is essential to the success of our children.

Photo collage of SCA officers and representatives during their first meeting

This is a special shout-out to our SCA officers and representatives as they engage in their first SCA meeting of the 23-24 school year. The SCA examined protocols and even prepared for our first spirit day of the year - Sock Day on Friday, September 29. Way to go, SCA!

Thank you to our helpful preschoolers, who are always ready to assist in the mornings. Our youngest Roadrunners help to take care of our fish in the front office by feeding them daily.

Welcome, Newest Roadrunners!

6th grade long term sub Jane Betsill

Jane Betsill is excited to join the Little Run family as a 6th-grade substitute teacher. Ms. Betsill attended FCPS as a child and taught grades 4-6 for 31 years before retiring. She loves kids, hiking, reading, gardening, and kayaking. Ms. Betsill has two grown children, a son and a daughter, and they love traveling together.

Classroom Monitor - Grace Bomar

Grace Bomar will be joining Little Run next week as a Student Monitor. Ms. Bomar recently graduated from Randolph-Macon College and she is currently attending George Mason University to earn her master's degree in clinical mental health counseling. A few fun facts about Ms. Bomar are that she loves coffee, cooking, and she likes to run for stress relief! Ms. Bomar is very excited to join the Little Run team for the 2023-2024 school year!

Classroom monitor - Nicki Marko

Nicki Marko joins the Roadrunners as a Student Monitor. She began her career as a Producer for Smithsonian Channel, Food Network, Discovery, and more. She’s told stories about sharks, astronauts, and ginormous wedding cakes. Her other passions include running (7 marathons to date), baking (and eating) bread, and hiking with her two kids – one of which just started as a kindergartener at LRES this year. Ms. Marko is thrilled to join the Little Run community.

Yom Kippur (Holiday) - September 25

Yom Kippur

All FCPS schools and offices will be closed on Monday, September 25, for Yom Kippur, the holiest day in Judaism. See the complete school year calendar. Learn more about Yom Kippur on Brittanica.com.

May all in our Jewish community observing Yom Kippur have an easy and meaningful fast. According to Jewish tradition, Yom Kippur is when God decides each person’s fate, so Jews are encouraged to make amends and ask forgiveness for sins committed during the past year. #OurFCPS

Positivity Project at Little Run ES

Positivity Project Green Shield Logo

This week our school community will be focusing on the character strength of Perspective. Perspective means you appreciate when people see things in different ways. You have the ability to understand the world from multiple points of view.

Perspective is also referred to as wisdom and is distinct from intelligence. People with this strength are sought out for advice because they see the big picture and can make sense of the world’s complexity. This strength of perspective gives individuals the ability to see to the heart of difficult matters and achieve clarity. Most importantly, they are honest and behave in an ethically consistent manner.

Perspective helps an individual make sense of the world. It provides clarity on what matters and what does not. Being able to see things from multiple angles helps individuals remain calm and learn from mistakes; they are typically highly self-aware. Reflecting on their own feelings, thoughts, and motives helps them understand and empathize with other people. These individuals are strong listeners and ask great questions. Individuals with the strength of perspective help their group get through difficult or uncertain circumstances because they’re poised and can identify opportunities for success.

To practice and encourage the character strength of perspective with your child, please visit the Positivity Project’s P2 for Families (password: P2), where together you will watch a video, read a quote, and talk about the answers to three questions.

Share Your Voice and Record a Flip Video- National Hispanic Heritage Month

National Hispanic Heritage Month

We would invite our Little Run Family and Community to learn and share together!

First, we invite our students who identify as Hispanic to share something from the Hispanic culture with their Little Run friends.

Second, we invite all students who would like to learn more about the Hispanic culture to share their learning (i.e., facts, poems, artwork, traditions, history, music, celebrations, books, contributions of notable Hispanic Americans, etc.) with their Little Run friends.

If your child or family would like to record a short segment, please click HERE. We would love to highlight the many cultures and knowledge that live right here in our community.

Alternatively, if your child would prefer to make a poster to display in the hallways at Little Run, please have them bring their poster to the front office to be displayed.

✨ 2023-30 Strategic Plan — Goal 5: Leading for Tomorrow's Innovation

strategic plan logo

The 2023-30 strategic plan sets five student-centered goals to create positive change in FCPS. These five goals show where we should focus our attention and will help us align our efforts.

Under Goal 5, every student will graduate ready to thrive in life after high school with the skills they need to navigate, adapt, and innovate for a sustainable future. Using data gathered from students, we will ensure they are ready for a wide variety of options for their futures.

Visit FCPS’ Strategic Plan webpage to learn more about how we will measure the success of Goal 5.
