Eagle Express - September 22, 2023

Greetings, Braddock Eagle Family Members!

We hope this message finds you and your family well. As you know, Braddock Elementary School is a Two-Way Spanish Immersion School with 438 students out of 866 K-5 students participating in this program. We are proud of our diverse student body, and we are committed to celebrating the rich culture and heritage of our Hispanic students and families.

Thank you for joining us for our National Hispanic Month celebration on Thursday, September 21st. We were honored to have 11 talented student performers from Valle Verde Marimba School in Guatemala to perform for our students, staff, and families.

The musicians put on a magnificent show and it was truly a joy to see our Braddock family come together to celebrate Hispanic culture. We were especially grateful for the support of our Spanish-speaking families, who represent a total of 649/866 K-5 students or 75% of our Braddock student population.

We are excited to celebrate our heritage all year long, but especially during Hispanic Heritage Month. If you have something special you would like to share, please contact your child's teacher or one of the Assistant Principals.

Sincerely,

The Braddock Elementary School Staff

Attendance/Absenteeism

 Attend Today, Achieve Tomorrow!

  • Attending school every day, even during the end of the school year, is critical to students reaching their fullest potential.
  • Regular attendance helps students engage in learning that builds proficiency in reading and math, which will help them to graduate from high school.
  • Students who attend school regularly do better academically in middle school. They are also more likely to graduate on time from high school, if they miss less than a week of school each semester.
  • A Caring Culture that creates a sense of belonging is a key component for students to attend school regularly.
  • Being in school helps students to get to know peers, teachers, and school staff, and to create trusting relationships that motivate students to participate in learning.
  • Students and their families should reach out to a trusted adult at the school—a teacher, counselor, school social worker or administrator—if they are having a hard time attending school every day.
  • Schools help students and families gain access to basic resources such as meals,  physical and mental health services, and fun enrichment activities including sports, clubs, music, afterschool, and summer programs.
  • Daily attendance routines, created at home or in school, can reduce stress for students and families, and create a sense of safety and security, especially after chaotic transitions.
