Yom Kippur

No School on Monday

School is closed for all staff and students on Monday, September 26 in observance of Yom Kippur. We will see everyone back at school at 8:30am on Tuesday.

Weekly Communication Sheets Begin Today

Knowing what your child is studying and how to support that learning at home is important. Beginning today, parents will receive document in Talking Points called a "Weekly Communication Sheet." There will be three sections:

  • Topics studied during the week
  • Questions you can ask your child about what they learned
  • Activities your child can do at home to support what they learned

Please look for the message from your child's teacher in Talking Points today. As always, if you have any questions, please reach out.

Testing for Grades 3-6

This past Wednesday, students in Grades 3-6 completed the Virginia Growth Assessment (VGA) in math. It's similar to the SOL test and helps us measure growth across the year. Next Wednesday, September 27th, they will take the reading portion of the VGA. Please contact Ms. Kirkland, our assistant principal, if you have any questions.

The Book Fair is Coming!

Our librarian, Ms. Daly, will be hosting a book fair during the week of October 9th. Mark your calendars and look for more information in the coming weeks.

Attendance Matters!

Whether students miss school because of illness or any other reason, missing school leads to learning loss.

Help your student succeed by encouraging them to attend as many days as possible, but do make sure your student stays home if they are sick. Visit FCPS’ website for information on when you should keep your child at home.

If your child has a chronic illness, make sure to notify their teacher, so that assistance can be provided if needed. Please contact us as soon as you know your child will be absent.

Student Rights & Responsibilities

FCPS’ Student Rights and Responsibilities document (SR&R) explains expectations for student behavior and adult responses to enhance school safety and to create a fair, equitable, and supportive school environment. In late June, the School Board approved changes to the SR&R for the 2023-24 school year. Updates include a revision of dress code expectations, bystander expectations for students witnessing harmful or unsafe behaviors, bullying, and substance abuse responses. Read Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid’s letter to families regarding the SR&R

Parents/caregivers should talk to their child(ren) about expectations for this school year. Also, please log in to SIS ParentVUE and sign to acknowledge your review of the SR&R, or sign and return the signature sheet to your child’s school by Friday, September 29

There are many ways where you can share your voice, talents and time. Check out the PTO Website for more information. It's available in multiple languages.

Do you have questions about attendance or food/drink at school or what students can wear?  If so, please check out our Parent/Guardian Handbook on our Mount Eagle website. It's available with translations. Click here to access it. Of course, if you have a question about a situation that is not listed, reach out to your child's teacher or an administrator. Your Partners In Education

We are honored to work with your family this year and will work everyday to ensure a safe and positive learning environment for your child. We can't do it alone. Please contact us when there is a question or concern, especially related to bullying. As a parent, you will often hear about something before staff might. Thank you for all your support.
