Floris Families,

Monday was National Custodian Appreciation Day, and Floris staff, students, and the PTA took time to celebrate our Floris custodians this week. Again, we send our gratitude and appreciation to our custodial team!

Many thanks to Mr. Barber, Mr. Morales, and all the volunteers helping to create a fabulous Fall Field Day for our 3rd-6th grade students later this afternoon. Our students will be demonstrating many Portrait of a Graduate skills, including Collaborator and Communicator, while being physically active and having fun!

Indigenous Peoples' Day honors the histories, cultures, and contributions of Native peoples, past and present. This year, Monday, October 9 is a student holiday and staff development day. The staff will be participating in a variety of professional development and planning sessions throughout the day. The office staff will be participating in some of the professional development as well, so the main office will be closed from 9:00am-12:00pm on Monday.

Our Kindergarten students will be visiting Cox Farm next week, and are so excited to have their first field trip.

Two PTA Reminders: Today is the last day for the Fall Fundraiser. We are very grateful for everyone who has already supported the Friends of Floris. Please join us for a night of Fall Family Fun crafting at Craftspace on October 10, from 5-9 PM! There are three projects to choose from. Make the project at Craftspace on 10/10, take a kit home, OR order online for school delivery next week! For all options, PRE-ORDER IS REQUIRED!

Have a wonderful three-day weekend.  We will see students on Tuesday, October 10.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Salad Bar Location Change

FCPS is making a shift in the elementary schools to place the Salad Bar on the serving line. Floris ES will make this shift on Tuesday, October 17, 2023. Below is some information about this change.

  • The physical standing Salad Bar in the dining room will be discontinued, and all meal options will be offered from the serving line.
  • All students who are eating school lunch will be able to choose from salad greens, three additional vegetables and three fruits.
  • Students will also have two protein choices on the salad bar each day. Students can use the protein to create a salad bar entrée or add a small amount to go with their fruit and vegetables.
  • The salad bar menu will continue to be posted at the lunch line and will be available to the school community at the FCPS Nutrislice Link.
  • Students will continue to have one hot entrée(s) choice available, and all fruits and vegetables will be served on the salad bar.

Food and Nutrition Services is making the shift of the salad bar back into the serving line is to allow schools to use the refrigerated sections that already exist (saving energy), saving space in the cafeteria dining room section, and to hopefully reduce waste with dropped food.
