✍️ Student Rights and Responsibilities Acknowledgement Due September 29

FCPS’ updated Student Rights and Responsibility (SR&R) booklet is available online and in SIS ParentVUE. The SR&R booklet explains expectations for student behavior, and adult responses to enhance school safety and to create a fair, equitable, and supportive school environment. 

Each year, we ask parents/caregivers to review and sign the SR&R. The SR&R will be visible upon logging in to SIS ParentVUE until the SR&R acknowledgment has been completed.

Signatures are due by Friday, September 29. Contact our front office if you are having difficulty accessing the booklet. Visit the SIS ParentVUE Account Overview webpage for help logging in to your account.

HES ADVANCED ACADEMICS PARENT INFORMATION NIGHT

Please join us for a parent information night about Advanced Academics at Herndon Elementary School.

We will be discussing an overview of Advanced Academic services as well as information about the screening process. There will be a time at the end of the session for questions. Herndon ES Health Room Volunteers Needed

Our school health room is looking for volunteers.  Training will be provided.  Please contact our clinic aide Mercy Caloyannides at mqcaloyannid@fcps.edu.


Kindergarten and New Student Registration for the
2023-24 School Year

We're excited to welcome our newest Herndon ES Bees!  A child may enter kindergarten for this coming school year if he or she turns five on or before September 30, 2023.   

If you have not registered your child, we are scheduling appointments for all rising kindergartners.  We have Spanish translators in the office and can arrange for other languages as well.  Please click here to begin the registration process now or contact Shermin Sirajudin, our Student Information Assistant, by email at ssirajudin@fcps.edu or by phone at 703-326-3100.

FCPS Policies, Regulations, and Notices Available Online

Virginia’s Standards of Quality require all school divisions to notify the public annually of the availability of the school system’s policies. A continuous review process ensures ongoing examination and revision of each policy, regulation, and notice as needed. View Fairfax County Public Schools policies

Any citizen who requests a hard copy of a directive has a right to receive it and should be provided the most current version printed from the website. The School Board office, at Gatehouse Administration Center, maintains the historical records of all directives.

TJHS Science and Engineering Investigative Science Outreach Science Fair Information Meeting for Students in Grades 5-8

TJ Invitation

We are TJ Investigative Science Outreach, a student-led organization at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology. We will be hosting our 11th annual science fair on March 16, 2024. 5th-8th grade students from Herndon Elementary are invited to participate. Admission to the science fair is completely free.
Participants will complete a research project of their choice and present at the fair in-person on March 16, 2024. We help students prepare for this fair by holding multiple sessions to teach them important skills in STEM like brainstorming, collecting data, presenting, writing an experiment summary, using statistics, creating an experimental diagram, etc.
Our first interest/brainstorming session is Friday October 6th, 2023 at 6:00 pm. We will be holding this session in-person at TJHSST. During this session we will go over the goals and guidelines of this fair and introduce students to a multitude of project ideas. 🌱 Healthy Together Fairfax Festival (Rain Date)

Enjoy a day of wellness at Healthy Together Fairfax on Sunday, September 24, from noon to 3 p.m. at Franconia Park. The Fairfax County Park Department and other local sponsors will be hosting guided trail walks, meditation sessions, health screenings, and a complimentary lunch. 

No matter what type of health you’re interested in — physical, environmental, social, or emotional wellness — there will be plenty to learn and do at this event! Visit the Healthy Together Fairfax webpage for more information.

Important School Bus Information

If a student’s bus is delayed, parents may access the Bus Delay Notification System or use the Here Comes the Bus mobile app to receive the delayed bus report.  For additional information, contact transportation for Herndon Elementary at 703-249-7100. For any concerns after 5:30 p.m., contact Safety and Security at 571-423-2000.
