Student Rights and Responsibilities Acknowledgement Due Friday, September 29
FCPS’ updated Student Rights and Responsibility (SR&R) booklet is available online and in SIS ParentVUE. The SR&R booklet explains expectations for student behavior, and adult responses to enhance school safety and to create a fair, equitable, and supportive school environment.
Each year, we ask parents/caregivers to review and sign the SR&R. The SR&R will be visible upon logging in to SIS ParentVUE until the SR&R acknowledgment has been completed.
Signatures are due by Friday, September 29. Contact your school’s front office if you are having difficulty accessing the booklet. Visit the SIS ParentVUE Account Overview webpage for help logging in to your account.
Please join Oak Hill principal, Mrs. Kelly Durso and Assistant Principal, Mrs. Cali Loewenberg, for coffee on October 2nd, at 10:00 am. All parents and caregivers are welcome. Mrs. Lahr, our Advanced Academics Resource Teacher, will be conducting a presentation on the Advanced Academics Programs offered in FCPS and the different levels of AAP services. Please RSVP by Friday, September 29th at 3:00.
Another presentation will be conducted later this fall to discuss the full-time AAP screening process. The meetings will be held in person.

Level IV Referrals for students New to FCPS as of January 1, 2023
- For any families new to FCPS who are interested in referring their child (Grades 3-6 only) to be screened for full-time AAP services (Level IV AAP), please submit a referral form electronically to Cathy Lahr cclahr@fcps.edu by October 15th, 2023. The AAP referral forms can be found here. More information to follow at the fall parent meetings.
Walk & Roll to School Day is an annual event that involves communities from across the country (and globe!) walking and rolling to school on the same day. It began in 1997 as a one-day event. Today, thousands of schools across America—from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico—participate every October. Join your Oak Hill friends in walking or biking to school today!

Book Fair
The library will be hosting the Scholastic Book Fair from October 13th through October 20th! Volunteers are needed to set-up, use a cash register to enter sales, support students with their purchases, and clean-up. Please sign up here for a day/time that works best for your schedule. Health Room
The Oak Hill Health Room is looking for volunteers to help with Vision and Hearing Screening on October 4th from 9:00-12:00. Please contact Juliana Rampersad at jtrampersad@fcps.edu to sign up.
PTA's Oak Hill Spirit Wear online sale will run until October 2, when all merchandise will be printed and processed. All purchased items will be delivered to the student's classroom by October 23. Order Spirit Wear Here!

The FCPS Family Resource Center (FRC) offers a welcoming and engaging environment for families/caregivers, educators, and community members. Visit us at the Dunn Loring Center for Family Services, 2334 Gallows Road, Entrance 1, Room 105. Contact us at 703-204-3941 frc@fcps.edu.
We provide access to information and resources to support the success of all students,including those with learning challenges, special needs, and disabilities. Those services include free consultations and resources, free webinars and workshops, a free lending library, and we maintain the FCPS tutor list. Contact us to get the list of FCPS employees who are available to tutor.
The Family Resource Center offers free, confidential in-person, videoconference, and phone consultations for families and FCPS staff. We can brainstorm strategies and possible solutions to help you address your concerns by drawing upon resources and support from FCPS, as well as community, state, and national centers. Contact us to set up an appointment.
The Family Resource Center Lending Library contains more than 10,000 books, eBooks, DVDs, and CDs on topics related to parenting and educating all children. We can send any materials to your child’s school or FCPS office.

Odyssey of the Mind (Extended for K-2)
The deadline to register to participate in the Odyssey of the Mind program for school year 2023-24 has been extended to September 30, 2023 for students in grades K - 2. Students will be placed on a first come first serve basis for the remaining openings. For more information and to register your child, see the PTA website (https://oakhillpta.ptboard.com/formvw/store). A registration fee is required for each student to participate. The initial fee will say $0 but a fee will be collected after your child is placed on a team.
Parent Volunteers Needed for Educational Programs!
We are seeking parent volunteers to supervise the Spelling Bee, First Lego League and First Lego League Jr., Math Kangaroo, and Science Olympiad Division B (5th-6th grade) programs. Chantilly High School 11th Annual Haunted House
Saturday, October 28th. 1-5 pm (less scary). 6-10pm (for braver goblins). Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door. More details are available at https://chshauntedhouse.com/
Stem Fest at South County High School
Students are invited to participate in STEM FEST on Saturday, October 14, from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at South County High School. Students in kindergarten through eighth grade can participate in robotics demonstrations, coding experiments, and more. High school students are invited to volunteer. TJHSST Invitational Science Fair 2024!
We are TJ Investigative Science Outreach, a student-led organization at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology. We will be hosting our 11th annual science fair on March 16, 2024 and we would like to invite 5th-8th grade students from your school to participate. Admission to the science fair is completely free.
Participants will complete a research project of their choice and present at the fair in-person on March 16, 2024. We help students prepare for this fair by holding multiple sessions to teach them important skills in STEM like brainstorming, collecting data, presenting, writing an experiment summary, using statistics, creating an experimental diagram, etc.
Our first interest/brainstorming session is Friday October 6th, 2023 at 6:00 pm. We will be holding this session in-person at TJHSST. During this session we will go over the goals and guidelines of this fair and introduce students to a multitude of project ideas.
