✏️Panda's in Action
It has been another amazing week at GBW! Our panda's continue to work on building their classroom communities, practicing their routines, and gain knowledge. Thank you to everyone that joined us at the Asha-Jyothi run last weekend and Chick Fil A night yesterday. We had a great turn out, and were able to raise a lot of money for our school. If you haven't already, follow us on Facebook to see Mr. Cook crossing the finish line! We were able to get 277 followers last year, our goal for this year is 500 by the end of the school year.
As a reminder, there is no school for students on Monday, September 25th as we observe the Yom Kippur holiday. Classes will resume as usual on Tuesday.

🌈Kindergarten Color Days
Tomorrow concludes our Kindergarten Color Days for this year! We have had a great time learning about and celebrating the different colors. Join us for Rainbow Day Friday, September 22nd.
⭐Blue Star Welcome Week
Every year, approximately 600,000 military-connected families relocate. Most of these families move to new duty stations, while some transition out of the military and others transition in. Most of these moves take place over the summer, and Fairfax County Public Schools is committed to ensuring our military families feel welcomed and a sense of belonging to their local community.
Blue Star Welcome Week is an opportunity for our community to welcome our military-connected families and show them our appreciation for their service and sacrifices. Throughout the week, FCPS will help ease their transition through events, messages, actions of welcome, and opportunities to make meaningful connections. #BlueStarWelcomeWeekFCPS. 🌷Sign Up for Green Team!
The Green Team is for kids who care about the environment in grades 2-6. Our meetings will include a mix of guest speakers and work in the courtyard garden. Green Team members will attend monthly meetings, help us grow and maintain the courtyard garden, and discuss environmental concerns and solutions that kids can do. 📝Fall VGA Testing Starts
Next Week
Each year students in grades 3-6 are required to take a series of state assessments that help measure the extent to which students have learned. The content and skills reflected in state standards and may also be used to measure growth in learning state standards. The format and timing of state assessments vary by grade level and content area. The first of these assessments is the Fall Virginia Growth Assessments (VGA) standardized tests in reading and mathematics. Below is the testing schedule for students at GBW.

Grade 4-September 27th
Grade 5-September 28th
Grade 6-September 29th
If your child misses a VGA test, they will make it up the week of October 2nd-6th.

💡AAP Information Session
An AAP information session will be held in the Cafeteria on Wednesday, September 27th from 8:15-9:00am. During this session, we will look at the goals of AAP and the continuum of services Fairfax County Public Schools offers to all students. We will also share critical and creative thinking strategies used in the classroom. This meeting is open to any parent wanting to learn more about advanced academic services. A separate meeting on the AAP screening process will take place in October.

 GBW PTA After School
Enrichment Programs!
Classes are beginning soon. This year, we are required to have parent volunteers at all class sessions. Please consider helping out with this program, so that our Pandas can enjoy these fun activities. Limited need-based scholarships are available. Join the PTA Today!
The GBW PTA is at 200 members! We are getting closer to our goal of 250! The PTA is sponsoring a movie and popcorn party for the grade level with the highest number of parents (and grandparents, too!) who have joined the PTA by September 30.
Joining the PTA doesn't mean you're signing your life away as a volunteer. It means you believe in the students, the staff, and the families at GBW. By becoming a PTA member and contributing to our fundraising campaigns, you are making a difference in every student at GBW. To learn more about what the GBW PTA does, check out this flyer.

GBW PTA Adopt-A-Highway Fall 2023 Clean-up
The Greenbriar West PTA has adopted the segment of Stringfellow Road between Poplar Tree Rd and Point Pleasant Dr and we are required to hold clean up events twice a year.
Please join us for our fall clean-up on Monday, October 9th (teacher work day). We will meet at the GBW Front Door at 2pm. The event will last about 90 minutes.
