LCES Updates 9/22/23 This Week's Updates

No School Monday, September 25th

Lees Corner Families,

We had another great week of learning! Thanks to all who joined us this morning for Fun Fit Friday!

Just a reminder that all FCPS schools and offices will be closed on Monday, September 25, for Yom Kippur, the holiest day in Judaism. See the complete school year calendar. Learn more about Yom Kippur on Brittanica.com.  May all in our Jewish community observing Yom Kippur have an easy and meaningful fast.

Have a wonderful weekend!

STEAM

STEAM Project

Our school’s theme for the 2023-2024 school year is “Connected, We are Stronger.” As our first STEAM challenge, we illustrated that theme with a collaborative art project. All students created a puzzle piece that represented their uniqueness. We then put together the individual pieces to form a tessellation. Look for it in the downstairs hallway.

TJHSST Invitational Science Fair 2024!

We are TJ Investigative Science Outreach, a student-led organization at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology. We will be hosting our 11th annual science fair on March 16, 2024 and we would like to invite 5th-8th grade students from your school to participate. Admission to the science fair is completely free.

Participants will complete a research project of their choice and present at the fair in-person on March 16, 2024. We help students prepare for this fair by holding multiple sessions to teach them important skills in STEM like brainstorming, collecting data, presenting, writing an experiment summary, using statistics, creating an experimental diagram, etc.

Our first interest/brainstorming session is Friday October 6th, 2023 at 6:00 pm. We will be holding this session in-person at TJHSST. During this session we will go over the goals and guidelines of this fair and introduce students to a multitude of project ideas. All interested students should sign up using the form at the link: https://forms.gle/RMfQYuvACK3YajRw8

If you have any questions or concerns, please email us back. Feel free to also check out our website at tjsciencefair.wordpress.com or email us at tjhsstsciencefair@gmail.com.

Sincerely,

TJ Investigative Science Outreach

Join the PTA

Join the Lees Corner PTA!

Our first meeting of the year will be on Tuesday, Sept 26, 2023. We will present our budget and members will vote on our new PTA Vice President.

All meetings will be streamed on ZOOM and links will be sent out the day before via email and posted on this Facebook page.

Remember, you don't need to join the PTA to attend the meetings, everyone is welcome, but joining the PTA helps support all our activities for our teacher, our kids, and our school.

You can join the PTA here: https://leescornerpta.memberhub.com/

What are the membership levels?

A PLEDGE membership ($100 for families with 2 children or more, $75 for one child) allows the PTA to fund all the activities that support our teachers and our kids WITHOUT selling wrapping paper or using a 3rd party fundraising company. Pledge memberships come with perks including: Free admission to Hallowingo, 5 free raffle tickets for Hallowingo, discounts on selected after school activities, and coming back this year - the school wide directory!

We understand not everyone can support a Pledge membership, so we have a STANDARD membership ($20) because we want everyone to join the PTA. Joining the PTA gives you voting rights for the election of officers.

TEACHER and STAFF memberships are for our teachers and admin staff at LCES. The $10 fee covers the state and local PTA membership dues.

Hallowingo is coming up! Pledge your PTA membership now to enjoy the perks!
