A Note from Your Administrators

We are in our 5th week of instruction and our students have really settled into the year nicely. In many ways it was the smoothest start in my tenure as principal of Chesterbrook and finally feels that we have jumped the hurdle of the pandemic. Working closely with the PTA we have a year filled with instruction, field trips, collaborative projects, assemblies, extracurriculars and community events. Thank you for your support and collaboration so we can help your child(ren) have a great year.

During the beginning of each year we collect data on students throughout the first month to assess where each child is in their learning growth. This data varies for students at each grade level, as each level has different state and countywide assessments mandated. As a school, our goal is to send data in its entirety so that you could see a more complete data assessment of your child(ren) this fall. While some of this data has been compiled, please know parents of first through sixth grade students will receive it in the first week of October. Teachers will be available to discuss these assessments during 1st quarter conferences; however, please know these are just markers for the fall and your child(ren) will take a variety of assessments throughout this school year to demonstrate their growth. We look forward to partnering with you in your child's education to help them excel.

Sincerely,

Stacy Kirkpatrick, Principal
Farris Thomas, Assistant Principal

Volunteer Photographers for Grade Level Events Needed

*No Professional Experience Necessary

We are in need of parents to sign up to take photos of grade level events throughout the year.  We realize that chaperones will vary for events, so having multiple parents per grade would be great.

KGES Boundary Study Meetings

The public is invited to participate in the next phase of the Kent Gardens Elementary School boundary study process. Two community meetings, both in-person, will be held to gather public input on the boundary change scenarios for Kent Gardens Elementary School and neighboring schools.

  • Tuesday, September 19, 6:30 - 8:00 p.m.McLean High School Cafeteria (in-person only, enter via door 9 in the back of the school)
  • Wednesday, September 27, 6:30 - 8:00 p.m.Longfellow Middle School Cafeteria (in-person only, enter via door 1)

Language interpretation will be provided based on the availability of interpretation staff. Each meeting will include the same presentation and input opportunities, please choose the meeting that best fits your schedule. No pre-registration is required.

At these meetings, the public is invited to provide feedback on options for a boundary change to address capacity challenges at Kent Gardens Elementary School. In each of the boundary scenarios to be presented:

  • The French Immersion program will remain at Kent Gardens Elementary School.
  • High school boundaries will not change and middle school boundaries will not change.

After the community meetings, FCPS staff will prepare a recommendation for the School Board to consider. A date for the School Board action has not yet been determined.

Community engagement for boundary studies is outlined in School Board Policy 8130 and Regulation 8130, for Local School Boundaries and Program Assignments. More information on the process is available in Regulation 8130.

Information to address questions and feedback has been posted to the Kent Gardens Capacity Challenges Website. While there, sign up for the project mailing list.

TJHSST Investigative Science Fair 2024 Information

TJ Investigative Science Outreach will be hosting their 11th annual science fair on March 16, 2024 and we would like to invite 5th-8th grade students from Chesterbrook ES to participate. Admission to the science fair is completely free.

Participants will complete a research project of their choice and present at the fair in-person on March 16, 2024. We help students prepare for this fair by holding multiple sessions to teach them important skills in STEM like brainstorming, collecting data, presenting, writing an experiment summary, using statistics, creating an experimental diagram, etc.

Our first interest/brainstorming session is Friday October 6th, 2023 at 6:00 pm. We will be holding this session in-person at TJHSST. During this session we will go over the goals and guidelines of this fair and introduce students to a multitude of project ideas. All interested students should sign up using the form at the link: https://forms.gle/RMfQYuvACK3YajRw8

Reminder

Preschool Inclusive Community Peers Program

Chesterbrook Elementary is pleased to announce that we will have community peers in our preschool program. This will involve teaching preschoolers with developmental delays and without delays in the same classroom. It can provide young children with a more stimulating environment, teach skills for coping with different situations, and provide the opportunity to learn appropriate social skills.

Our program will invite a limited number of community preschoolers (1-2 students), who are age 4-5 years (must be at least 4 years old by September, 30 of school year), to participate in our daily preschool activities. The children from the community will have the opportunity to make new friends and share experiences with current early childhood special education students. Our students will, in turn, benefit from being with community peers who can model appropriate language, motor, and social skills.

The goal of this program is to encourage active learning and promote social interaction and acceptance through shared experiences between the community children and our preschoolers with special needs.

Our Preschool Hours are Monday - Friday as follows:

AM Preschool 9:20 am - 12:40 pm

PM Preschool 12:45 pm – 4:05 pm (students aged 4-5 are eligible for PM preschool).

If you are interested in expressing interest in Chesterbrook’s Community Peers Program, please complete this google form.

Chesterbrook will host a Parent Coffee for interested parents on Tuesday, 9/19 at 1:00PM . Please join Mrs. Kirkpatrick and Mrs. Thomas to hear more about this opportunity. We request that interested parents fill out the interest form linked above prior to attending the meeting.
