Blue Star

Blue Star Welcome Week Sept. 25th-29th

Blue Star Welcome Week is a nationwide initiative to provide a warm welcome to the 600,000 active-duty and transitioning military families that move into new communities each year. It is the goal of Blue Star Families to proactively improve military families’ sense of belonging to their local communities by forging strong connections between our military family members and their local neighbors.  If you are a new military family, welcome to Kings Park ES!  Please check out the FCPS military families Welcome Page  and the FCPS military families Resources Page.

Blue Star Spirit Days

All KP students can help Kings Park ES welcome our new military connected families! Please join us in the following Spirit Days!

  • Tuesday Sept 26th  - Help us welcome our military students by wearing Red, White and Blue or wear colors to represent a branch of the US military.
  • Friday Sept 29th -  Welcome to the family! We are all Kings Park Lions! Show your pride by wearing KP spirit wear or colors ( purple and green)

Hall of Fame Bulletin Board in PE

Everyone here at Kings Park is worthy of our Hall of Fame!  If you and your child want to be added to our new bulletin board in the gym, send in a picture of your student being active or playing a sport.  Pictures may be photos or color print outs.  They need to be 4”x6” or smaller so we have room for anyone that wants to participate.  Pictures will NOT be returned at the end of the year.  The pictures could be everything from an action shot on a trampoline, to riding a bike, to a posed soccer picture.  Every child at Kings Park can be active and we want to see your favorite ways!  If you have any questions please email Mrs. Belcher, hjbelcher@fcps.edu, or Mrs. Beavers, ekbeavers@fcps.edu

Advanced Academics

Families, please check out the AAP Fall Newsletter, providing an overview of the continuum of Advanced Academic services in FCPS.

Are you curious about Advanced Academic Programs in FCPS Elementary Schools? Mrs. Mucciolo, Kings Park Advanced Academics Resource Teacher,  has created an overview video for all families about the continuum of services and the upcoming screening process.

Kings Park will be offering two parent question/answer sessions regarding AAP services and screening processes:

Friday, September 29, 2023, in Room 27 at KPES

Session 1: 9:00am - 9:30am
Session 2: 4:00pm - 4:30pm

If you are unable to attend and have lingering questions following the video, please reach out to Jamie Mucciolo (jmmucciolo@fcps.edu) via email. All are welcome!

Parent Digital Consent

This page also includes directions on how to provide permission. Each digital resource used in FCPS has had an instructional and technical review. Students Are Learning Every Day

As you plan upcoming trips and other family events, please remember the importance of sending your child to school every day. Review the FCPS School Year Calendar and try to plan any time away during long breaks from school.

Children who show up for school regularly develop fundamental reading and math skills while building a habit of good attendance that will carry them into college and careers. Research shows that children who were chronically absent (missing 18 days or more) in kindergarten and first grade were far less likely to read proficiently at the end of third grade.

Read more about how families can help form good attendance habits.

When a Student Should Stay Home From School

Whether students miss school because of illness or any other reason, missing school leads to learning loss.

Help your student succeed by encouraging them to attend as many days as possible, but do make sure your student stays home if they are sick. Visit FCPS’ website for information on when you should keep your child at home.

If your child has a chronic illness, make sure to notify their teacher, so that assistance can be provided if needed. Please contact us as soon as you know your child will be absent.
