2023-24 Health and Safety Guidance for Schools
Although the COVID-19 hospital transmission level (previously the COVID-19 Community Transmission level) for Fairfax County is currently low, COVID-19 cases have risen in Virginia during the last few weeks, and flu season will soon be upon us. Be sure to review FCPS Health and Safety Guidance for the best ways to prevent the spread of disease and to find out when students should stay home from school.
Reporting Student Absences
We love having our students at school and hope to see them every day! We understand, however, that there will be times when illness or other circumstances require an absence. When this is the case, it is critical that families reach out to notify us regarding the absence. We are hoping to decrease unexcused absences this year. You can help by making sure that our office is made aware of the reason for your student’s absence. In order to excuse an absence and avoid an attendance call, notification of student absence should take place by 9:00am.
Below are the 3 options by which to notify the school office (choose one option):
Please do this in addition to contacting your child's teacher. There could be times when the teacher is absent and, by also contacting the office, the information will be properly noted.
In the event that your child needs to be picked up unexpectedly, please call the office (703-313-4000) in advance of your arrival. This allows the office to contact your student's teacher to prepare your student for departure.
Key Center Observes Patriot Day
On Monday, September 11th, we remembered and honored the victims, families, heroes, and survivors of 9/11, and the courage and determination of our nation's first responders. Key Center staff and students observed this day with a variety of learning activities. Classes learned about the events of September 11th and the impact on our country, citizens, and first responders. Students also created their own Freedom Flag and wrote letters, thanking first responders. #NeverForget
