Kindergarten Play-Based Choice Time
This year, FCPS added Play-Based Choice Time to the Kindergarten Curriculum. This is a time for Kindergarteners to develop their vocabulary, learn to read context clues, practice oral language skills, encounter different language structures, and so much more.
The Kindergarten team is looking for items to use during this new part of the day. If you have any of the following items, donations would be greatly appreciated: barbies, action figures, hot wheels, puppets, any building materials, play food, cash registers, costumes.
Although we'd love to accept all donations, we are short on storage space and must be mindful about what we accept. If you are interested in donating, contact Miss Olson, one of our Kindergarten teachers (maolson1@fcps.edu). Let her know what you have, and she will follow up about whether that item is still needed.
National Hispanic Heritage Month
Fairfax County's inaugural Hispanic Heritage Celebration, the Fairfax Fiesta, is taking place on Saturday, Sept. 23rd, from noon to 5 p.m., at the PARC at Tysons (8508 Leesburg Pike). The free event, presented by the Fairfax County Government and Celebrate Fairfax!, aims to provide an extraordinary experience for all ages and backgrounds. Learn more about Fairfax Fiesta.
Rosh Hashanah
Friday, September 15th, is a half-O day in recognition of Rosh Hashanah, which begins at sundown. Half-O days are full school days, but important events will not be held after school on those days. See the complete school year calendar.
Shanah tovah to our Jewish community celebrating Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year! Meaning “head of the year,” Rosh Hashanah is one of Judaism’s holiest days and marks the beginning of the Days of Awe, a 10-day period of introspection that ends with Yom Kippur. |

STEAM Supply Donations
We are so excited to be integrating our understanding of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math this year in our STEAM classes! All grade levels and classes have STEAM weekly and we would greatly appreciate any donations of supplies/materials for our STEAM challenges. Students will be using these materials as they engage in the Engineering Design Process and utilize their Portrait of a Graduate skills. There is a collection box where your child may drop off donated supplies by the Kiss N Ride door/library.
Please check here for the list:

This page will be updated periodically as new needs arise. Thank you for checking back throughout the year and if you would like to learn more, check out FCPS’ website on STEAM in our schools!

All families are welcome to attend, however the information is geared more towards families with students in 2nd grade and up. The meeting will be held in the cafeteria. Please feel free to join us.
