Woodley Hills is Proud to be a Title I School

Title I federal legislation designed "to provide all children significant opportunities to receive a fair, equitable, and high-quality education and close educational achievement gaps." Elementary schools with a high level of families in need of financial support receive funds that can be used to hire staff and to purchase materials to meet the needs of their students and families.

Woodley Hills is designated as a Title I school and receives additional money to support the educational needs of our students.    We use the majority of our funding to hire staff, such as Ms. Parsons (Math Specialist), Ms. Fiocchi (Instructional Coach), Ms. Rahnama (Social Worker) and to fund our afterschool program as well as  purchase materials. In addition, division Title I funds have been used to provide full-time positions for Ms. Stebbins (Advanced Academics Resource Teacher) and Ms. Morris (Social Worker).   Our Title I status has truly benefited all of our children!

If you want additional information, you can visit our website to learn more about our Title I Program at Woodley Hills ES.

Every year, approximately 600,000 military-connected families relocate. Most of these families move to new duty stations, while some transition out of the military and others transition in. Most of these moves take place over the summer, and Fairfax County Public Schools is committed to ensuring our military families feel welcomed and a sense of belonging to their local community.

Blue Star Welcome Week is an opportunity for our community to welcome our military-connected families and show them our appreciation for their service and sacrifices. Throughout the week, FCPS will help ease their transition through events, messages, actions of welcome, and opportunities to make meaningful connections. Please help us welcome our military families during Blue Star Welcome Week, September 23 - October 1, 2023, and throughout the year! #BlueStarWelcomeWeekFCPS

We need our students at school every day because it is extremely important for your child’s success. Studies have repeatedly proven that students with better attendance records perform better in school and are more likely to graduate high school on time. Did you know?

  • Starting in kindergarten, too many absences can cause children to fall behind in school.
  • Missing 10% (or about 2 days per month) can make it harder for your child to learn to read.
  • Attending school even if your student arrives late is valuable for their academic success.

Please make sure to schedule appointments as well as family events and trips when school is not in session.  Please review the FCPS School Year Calendar and try to plan any time away during long breaks from school.

✔️ Caregiver Checklist: Have You Completed These Important Forms?

During the first weeks of the year, caregivers receive many forms to complete. Several of the most important ones are below:

  1. Digital Resources Consent: Some FCPS-approved digital resources require parent/caregiver consent before they can be used by students. Find the list of resources which require consent on the Digital Resources - Parent Consent page. This page also includes directions on how to provide permission.
  2. Student Rights and Responsibilities: This document explains expectations for student behavior and adult responses. Parents using SIS ParentVUE will be prompted to sign the document when they log in to that platform. A printable version of the document with a signature sheet is available on the SR&R webpage.
  3. Emergency Care Cards and Health Information: Emergency Care Cards and Health Information forms can be updated in SIS ParentVUE. Please carefully review these documents for accuracy.

Directions: Enrolling parents, log on to SIS ParentVUE and select Online Packets on the top right-hand side, and then select Online Verification/Update - OVU. Step-by-step Instructions for how to do this can be found here

Verifying/submitting your Emergency Care and Health Information forms via your SIS ParentVue accounts allows us to have the most current information instantly accessible in our database and will prevent any delays in processing updates to new contact information. This method will also allow you to simultaneously update information for any other children for whom you are the enrolling parent in FCPS.

  1. Opt-Outs: The Opt-Out Booklet is online or available from your child’s school. It contains information on:
    1. Parents’ rights to inspect and consent or opt out before their child participates in certain surveys.
    2. Parents’ rights to inspect instructional materials.
    3. Rules regarding student records and disclosure of student information (including photo/video of students) and the right to opt out.
    4. Parents’ rights to opt out of the Social Emotional Learning Screener, physical exams not required by state law, career or social emotional counseling, Library Equity Access Pass Project, and/or Tutor.com.
    5. The process by which complaints may be filed if parents or students believe their rights have been violated.

Paper forms can be signed and returned to school.
