Message from Mrs. Castillo

Spiritwear

While it has been HOT, this has been a great week of learning at Lemon Road!  Ms. Ulsh and I enjoyed meeting with parents today at our 1st Principals' Coffee of the year.  Our next coffee is scheduled for Friday, November 10th.  If there are topics you want us to cover, you can submit through this google form or send me an email.

Tonight we look forward to our Ice Cream Social to celebrate reaching our PTA goal for money raised through the Armchair Fundraiser!  Thank you to everyone who contributed.  This will decrease the cost of field trips for all Lemon Road students.

Next week we will host our annual Back to School Night on Thursday, September 14.  This parent-only event gives parents & guardians the opportunity to meet with your child's teacher, hear about the curriculum and grade level plans, ask questions, and sign up for volunteer opportunities and your parent/teacher conferences.  Doors will open at 5:50 and the first session will begin at 6:00 PM.  There will be an intermission from 6:40 - 7:00 where parents can meet with our specialists to hear about our specials curriculum, patrols, SCA, FLE, etc.  The second session will begin at 7:00 in the homeroom classrooms.  Please consider walking, carpooling, or ride sharing as parking is limited.

Finally, each month, we recognize staff that have gone above and beyond at Lemon Road.  If you have gift cards, movie passes, or other items you are willing to contribute, we find opportunities throughout the year to distribute them to our most deserving staff.  Drop any donations off in the front office or place in an envelope with Mrs. Castillo's name on it.  Thank you for your support!

Have a great weekend!

Positivity Project: Open-mindedness

Open

Next week our school community will be focusing on the character strength of Open-Mindedness.  Open-mindedness means you like to consider new ideas and try new things. You examine things from all sides and don’t jump to conclusions.

Open-mindedness is the willingness to actively search for evidence that goes against one’s favored opinions, plans, or goals. Open-minded individuals are able to weigh all evidence fairly, when it is available. They see the other side and fight the tendency to have a bias for their own views. And, rather than favoring the socially dominant views, they give attention to those that are less dominant.

To practice and encourage the character strength of open-mindedness with your child, please visit the Positivity Project’s P2 for Families (password: P2), where together you will watch a video, read a quote, and talk about the answers to three questions.
