Exciting news! After a lengthy wait for permits, our outdoor classroom is finally starting to come together. The canopy is now installed, and we're eager to move forward with the next steps. 🌳📚
Each week we will share a new image in News You Choose. Because math is everywhere, each image has some math to discover!
- With your child/children, think about…
- What are you noticing in the image?
- What math do you see in the image?
- What math questions might you ask?
- What math questions can you answer?
See our first two images below. Explore math with your child and see the endless possibilities.

On sudents’ birthdays, they will get to choose from a menu of special “events” for their class and receive a special pencil from us in the main office. (No treats will be permitted for drop-off and should not be consumed in classrooms)
Our menu options are below and will likely be updated as the year goes on. This will allow for ALL children to have special birthday celebrations and there will be no worries about food allergies, too much sugar, etc.. Thank you for supporting this new idea by helping your child decide which option they will choose. Please do not send in food or toys for your child’s birthday. Thank you!
- Bring in a favorite book to share/read
- Your child gets to pick the read aloud story for the day
- Donate a book to the school library or classroom in honor of your child’s birthday
- Donate a board game to your child’s class to be used for indoor recess
- Donate a plant for school beautification
- Send in small, tangible items to be distributed to the class (pencils, erasers, stickers, etc.)
- Stuffed Animal Day- all students are encouraged to bring a stuffed animal
- Pajama Day- everyone has the option to wear their PJ’s
- Extra Recess- class gets a few minutes of extra recess time
- Favorite Story Day- birthday child gets to choose the read aloud book for the class
- Lunch Bunch with teacher or staff member
- Special Show and Tell
During the first weeks of the year, caregivers receive many forms to complete. Several of the most important ones are below:
-
Digital Resources Consent: Some FCPS-approved digital resources require parent/caregiver consent before they can be used by students. Find the list of resources which require consent on the Digital Resources - Parent Consent page. This page also includes directions on how to provide permission.
-
Student Rights and Responsibilities: This document explains expectations for student behavior and adult responses. Parents using SIS ParentVUE will be prompted to sign the document when they log in to that platform. A printable version of the document with a signature sheet is available on the SR&R webpage.
-
Opt-Outs: The Opt-Out Booklet is online or available from your child’s school. It contains information on:
- Parents’ rights to inspect and consent or opt out before their child participates in certain surveys.
- Parents’ rights to inspect instructional materials.
- Rules regarding student records and disclosure of student information (including photo/video of students) and the right to opt out.
- Parents’ rights to opt out of the Social Emotional Learning Screener, physical exams not required by state law, career or social emotional counseling, Library Equity Access Pass Project, and/or Tutor.com.
- The process by which complaints may be filed if parents or students believe their rights have been violated.
Paper forms can be signed and returned to school.
Many parents have been parking in the RED areas below and walking their child across the bus lanes into Door 1. Parents and children MUST use the crosswalks to get to the sidewalk to enter through Door 1. Please review the map below. An alternative choice is taking your child through kiss and ride.
Although the COVID-19 hospital transmission level (previously the COVID-19 Community Transmission level) for Fairfax County is currently low, COVID-19 cases have risen in Virginia during the last few weeks, and flu season will soon be upon us. Be sure to review FCPS Health and Safety Guidance for the best ways to prevent the spread of disease and to find out when students should stay home from school.
