We hope you are having a wonderful start to the week! It is nice to get a break from the heat and see fall on the horizon!
This Thursday, September 15th is our annual Back to School Night. This is an opportunity for families and caregivers to learn more about their students' school experience. You will hear about their daily schedule, curriculum and resources. Unlike Open House, this is a structured event with two sessions and is for adults only.
Here is the schedule:
5:00-5:25 PM - Doors Open for families to come to the Cafeteria to meet our specialists
5:30-6:30 PM - Session 1
6:35-7:20 PM - Session 2 (Repeat of 1st session)
Session 1 and 2 are the exact same and are designed for families who have more than one child.

Let's welcome Fairhill's new Family Liaison
My name is Denise Crump-Mico and I am your new Family Liaison. I am excited to return to the Fairhill community after some years away. My 2 boys were Fairhill students from 2012 to 2015 and all of us remember our time here fondly. For those three years in our very transient life, Fairhill welcomed us, nurtured our boys, and equipped them for future success.
I was born and raised in Mexico City, Mexico and came to the United States during my college years. I received an MA in International Communications from American University. We have lived in El Salvador, Hungary, Ukraine, Spain, Uzbekistan and Mexico.
As your family liaison I am here to help you get the information and assistance you need to support your child and your journey through the elementary school years. If you are new to Fairhill let me welcome you and please reach out with any questions or concerns.
I am excited to be back in Fairhill. I look forward to getting to know you and helping to make your experience here as positive and meaningful as ours was. Fall Picture Day is coming to Fairhill!
Fairhill individual student pictures will be taken on September 21st. Please click here for information on how to order your child's individual student photo.
Paper copies of the forms will be sent home with your child next Tuesday, September 19th. Please send your child to school with the forms/envelopes on Picture Day if you would rather not order online.

Fairhill Fitness Week and Fun Run is coming!
The Fairhill PTA is excited to announce the launch the Fairhill Fitness Week and Fun Run! Fairhill Fitness Week will be September 25th – 29th. The Fairhill Fun Run will be held during specials on Friday, September 29th, outside on the field.
Please support this fundraiser by sharing your child’s link found at: https://app.99pledges.com/fund/fairhillES23 . You should have also received an email from 99pledges with the link to set up your child’s donation website page. Each student will have their own link and page on the website. A paper pledge form is attached here if you would rather donate with a check. Fairhill Elementary PTA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, making your donation tax deductible.

Advanced Academics Parent Information Session
Please join us for a Parent Information Session on Wednesday, September 27th @ 5:30-6:30 in the Fairhill library for an overview of FCPS Advanced Academic Programs and AAP services provided here at Fairhill.  Join other Fairhill families and a meal out at Iron Chef House in Mosaic on Sunday, September 17th. You can eat in or order out. Use the code FAIRHILL and 15% will go back to the PTA.
Caregiver Checklist: Have You Completed These Important Forms?
During the first weeks of the year, schools mail and email caregivers many forms to complete. Several of the most important ones are below:

Digital Resources Consent: Some FCPS-approved digital resources require parent/caregiver consent before they can be used by students. Find the list of resources which require consent on the Digital Resources - Parent Consent page. This page also includes directions on how to provide permission so your child(ren) can access all resources provided by their teachers.

Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R): This document explains expectations for student behavior and adult responses. Parents using SIS ParentVUE will be prompted to sign the document when they log in to that platform. A printable version of the document with a signature sheet is available on the SR&R webpage. This form should be signed and returned by Friday, September 29.

Opt-Outs: The Opt-Out booklet is online or available from your child’s school. It contains information on:
- Parents’ rights to inspect and consent or opt out before their child participates in certain surveys.
- Parents’ rights to inspect instructional materials.
- Rules regarding student records and disclosure of student information (including photo/video of students) and the right to opt out.
- Parents’ rights to opt out of the Social Emotional Learning Screener, physical exams not required by state law, career or social emotional counseling, Library Equity Access Pass Project, and/or Tutor.com.
- The process by which complaints may be filed if parents or students believe their rights have been violated.
Paper forms can be signed and returned to your child’s school.
The Importance of Up-to-Date Immunizations
Immunizations are required by the code of Virginia § 22.1-271.2 for public school entry and help keep students protected from serious diseases. Check with your students’ healthcare providers now to make sure they are up to date on their immunizations. Immunization records can now be updated online in SIS ParentVUE through the Online Verification Update form. To access that form, click Online Packets in the top right of the screen after logging in. Caregivers can obtain an activation key letter to activate their SIS ParentVUE account by contacting their child’s school.
Visit the Fairfax County Health Department website for a list of immunization clinics or contact your family’s healthcare provider. Appointments are required for most clinics.
Remember that you need to provide documentation to your school. Get more information on immunization requirements and the necessary documentation for schools.
