I would like to warmly welcome all parents and guardians to our Back to School Night this Wednesday evening, September 13th. Our doors will open at 6:00 p.m.; you will be able to purchase spirit wear and attend the first general membership meeting of the PTA in the cafeteria to begin the evening. At 6:30 p.m., we will open our hallways for parents to go to classrooms for presentations beginning at 6:40 p.m. and continuing in rotation until the evening ends at 8:00 p.m.
Please plan to attend for an opportunity to learn more about your child’s teachers, our daily schedule, procedures and routines, and units of study for the school year. Information about parent-teacher conferences will also be provided. Our faculty looks forward to welcoming you, partnering with you, and sharing about the year ahead!
A bus will be provided and will leave the Creekside Community Center at 5:45p and leave to return to the Community Center at 8:00p.

September 11 - Patriot Day
During the 22nd anniversary of September 11, FCPS acknowledges the loss of life, the heroism of our first responders, and the resilience of our country. The September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance, also called Patriot Day, is a chance to reflect and act in service to others to honor those who were injured or killed in the terrorist attacks.
All FCPS students are encouraged to participate in service learning as it supports Portrait of a Graduate (POG) attributes and social and emotional learning (SEL) skills.
Get started this fall with two great opportunities: Public Lands Day (September 23) and Volunteer Fairfax’s VolunteerFest (October 21). Information on service projects can be found on the Volunteer Fairfax website.
11 de Septiembre - Día del Patriota
Durante el 22.º aniversario del 11 de septiembre, FCPS reconoce la pérdida de vidas, el heroísmo de nuestros socorristas y la resiliencia de nuestro país. El Día Nacional de Servicio y Recuerdo del 11 de septiembre, también llamado Día del Patriota, es una oportunidad para reflexionar y actuar al servicio de los demás para honrar a quienes resultaron heridos o muertos en los ataques terroristas.
Se anima a todos los estudiantes de FCPS a participar en el aprendizaje-servicio, ya que respalda los atributos del Retrato de un Graduado (POG) y las habilidades de aprendizaje social y emocional (SEL).

Advanced Academic Programs (AAP)
Overview Night - Sept. 28
Please join Mrs. Lynch, our Advanced Academic Resource Teacher, to learn about the different Advanced Academic Programs, or AAP, in Fairfax County Public Schools. Fairfax County Public Schools offers different levels of service of Advanced Academic Programs for students K-12 that build upon students' individual strengths and skills and maximizes academic potential for all learners. Information will also be provided about our Young Scholars’ Program.
The session will be held on Thursday, September 28, 2023, at 6:00p in the Fort Hunt ES library. Please plan to attend so that you can learn about the Advanced Academics Programs’ levels of service, including Young Scholars, that FCPS has to offer. Please remember to turn in your student(s) Emergency Care, Health Information Form and SR&R forms as soon as possible.
This year, many of our forms that we normally send home in the first Wednesday Folder are online. Please take the time to click on the links below and fill out the forms. If you have more than one student at Fort Hunt, a form needs to be filled out for each student.
If you would like a paper form, please contact the Main Office at 703/619-2600 and let them know which paper form(s) to send home with one of your students.

Dining Room Assistant Needed
Do you love working with children? Fort Hunt ES is looking for 2 friendly and energetic Dining Room Assistants who will help maintain expectations of cafeteria behavior for the school year. Job includes assisting students with opening lunch items, keeping noise level down, organizing bathroom breaks, monitoring class dismissal by making sure student table washers and sweepers complete their task on time, etc.
If you or someone you know are available from 10:45a-1:45p Monday-Friday and would like to come support our students during their lunch time, please contact Debbie Trenchard at dtrenchard@fcps.edu for more information. This is a paid position.

The beginning of the school year is the best time to develop strong attendance habits! Students who attend school regularly are more likely to perform well in reading and math, develop strong social and emotional skills, and graduate from high school on time. Help prepare your child for future success. Visit FCPS’ Attendance webpage for tips and strategies.
As you plan upcoming trips and other family events, please remember the importance of sending your child to school every day. Review the FCPS School Year Calendar and try to plan any time away during long breaks from school.
If your child will be late to school or absent from school please call the Attendance Line to excuse the late arrival/absence at 703/619-2626. For more information, click here.
