Principals Message

Wolverine Community,

It was a great week two at West Potomac!  Our entire community is getting into our routines and the rhythm of the school day.  My week was highlighted by meeting with several student groups including the Student Government Association Executive Board and Class Officers and the Editors of The Wire, our student newspaper.  I’ve appreciated all the student outreach and communication over these first two weeks of school and look forward to visiting with more student groups in September.

In advisory on Tuesday, our 9th and 12th graders participated in the annual review of the Student Rights & Responsibilities (SR&R) and took an assessment to check for understanding.  Our 10th and 11th grade students will participate in this lesson on Tuesday after the long weekend.  Students who may have been or will be absent for their presentation will have the opportunity to make it up through their advisory class.  We want to be sure we are all on the same page regarding expectations at the start of the year.  If you haven’t already, just another reminder that parents/guardians should log into your SIS ParentVue account and sign to acknowledge review of the SR&R document or return the signature sheet to WPHS by September 29.

We are excited to see you next Thursday, September 7, at our Back-to-School Open House!  A reminder that the event is from 4-7pm.  The open house format allows you to check in with teachers as your schedule allows during the three-hour window.  Every 20 minutes teachers will share a brief 5-7 minute presentation with those who are in the room.  I’d recommend reviewing your child’s schedule and start on one end of the building and move to the other.  A reminder that we will also have an optional 25 minute New Parent Presentation at 4:30pm, 5:30pm, and 6:30pm in the cafeteria presented by Student Services.  Finally, there are several optional Senior Information presentations available starting at 6pm that run through 8:30pm.  More information about Senior Information Night is below!  Please plan to come to Back to School Night hungry and visit with our Food Trucks from 3:30-6:30pm (Tacos and Kona Ice) as a percentage of your purchase will support the Class of 2024!

We are excited to end the week tonight as we kick off our home football schedule.  Come out and support our Football Team, Cheer Team, Dance Team, and WPHS Marching Band! Kickoff is 7pm!

Wishing you a wonderful holiday weekend.

Take care,

Kevin McMahon

Interim Principal
