Scenes and Smiles from Around Our School!
 6th-grade students utilize communication and collaboration skills to create structures with index cards, including towers and bridges.
 1st and 5th-graders engage in all components of their morning meeting, including greeting, sharing, activity, and morning message. Ms. Yarn and Ms. Hassen were excited to have the help of a student as they hung new bird feeders at Little Run.
 Our 3rd-graders are all smiles during their time together at recess!
 2nd-grade students identify and record living and non-living things outside.
Labor Day Holiday
Friday, September 1, and Monday, September 4, are Labor Day holidays for all FCPS employees and students. Virginia legislation requires that schools opening prior to Labor Day must be closed the Friday immediately preceding Labor Day. We hope everyone takes the long weekend to celebrate a strong start to the school year and enjoy time with family and friends. See the complete school year calendar.

Welcome, Ms. McClain!
We are excited to welcome Ms. Nascia McClain, 5th-grade teacher, to our Little Run Family!
Ms. McClain shares that she moved to the DMV from California in 2019, and loves to travel, paint, she enjoys tacos, and she loves to engage in philosophical conversations!
Ms. McClain has a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology form Morgan State University, and she is thrilled to join Little Run Elementary!

Student Monitor Position Available
Little Run is looking for a positive and energetic individual, who may be looking for an opportunity to join our staff as a student monitor.
Student Monitors
Hourly 8:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., Monday-Friday, $16.85 per Hour
Description
Provides supervision of students throughout the school day, including but not limited to the classroom, hallways, lunch, recess, specials, and at arrival/dismissal; helps maintain order and discipline and assists in managing the behavior of students; operates technology; performs administrative and non-instructional duties; ensures all layered prevention/safety protocols and procedures are implemented and followed; works with individual and small groups of students.
Qualifications
Any combination of education and experience is equivalent to graduation from high school. Must be comfortable managing student behaviors in large and small groups, ensuring all layered prevention/safety protocols and procedures are implemented and followed, and have general familiarity/skills with basic office technology in support of teachers, students, and the classroom.

Positivity Project at Little Run ES
This week our school community will be focusing on the character strength of Teamwork. Teamwork means you work well as a member of a group or team. You are loyal, reliable, and dedicated to helping your team achieve its goals.
Teamwork is the ability and willingness to place overall group success as a higher priority than individual achievement. Those who demonstrate strengths in teamwork often work to help all group members find success. These individuals are willing to commit time and resources in order to further group goals and help toward the greater good.
For individuals, teamwork often means deferring or delaying individual accomplishments in order to ensure that the group maintains a high level of success. Their commitment to the larger group effort makes them good teammates. The positive feelings associated with being part of a larger whole -- can be highly beneficial and combat selfishness and egotism.

2023 Student Rights and Responsibilities
FCPS’ Student Rights and Responsibilities document (SR&R) explains expectations for student behavior and adult responses to enhance school safety and to create a fair, equitable, and supportive school environment. In late June, the School Board approved changes to the SR&R for the 2023-24 school year. Updates include a revision of dress code expectations, bystander expectations for students witnessing harmful or unsafe behaviors, bullying, and substance abuse responses. Read Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid’s letter to families regarding the SR&R.
Parents/caregivers should talk to their child(ren) about expectations for this school year. Also, please log in to SIS ParentVUE and sign to acknowledge your review of the SR&R, or sign and return the signature sheet to your child’s school by Friday, September 29.
