Specialist Spotlight: Art with Mrs. Springfield

Mustang artists are busy starting the year off with fun projects!  All students started the first week with painting, and different grades will be transitioning into collage and clay projects in the coming weeks.  Our students are very excited to be back in the art room and have done an amazing job remembering routines and learning new ones.  Please note the day that your student has art so they can wear appropriate clothes for any accidental mess that might occur.  We do have smocks that student can get themselves, so please let your child know if you want him/her to wear a smock.  We are in need of baby wipes for the art room!  If you can donate some wipes, please leave in the office.  Thank you so much for all of the donations so far!

Back to School Night is Sept. 21

We invite families to join us for Back to School Night beginning at 6:00 p.m.  There will be two sessions so families can learn about what their children will be learning in the different grade levels.

Student Birthdays

No edible birthday treats are allowed due to allergies. We encourage families who wish to celebrate their child's birthday to do so in other ways, such as providing non-edible treats.

You can learn more in the BMP Family Handbook.

Free Student Breakfast & Lunch

Bren Mar Park has been identified a Community Eligibility Provision (CEP). This allows the school to serve breakfast and lunch at no cost to all enrolled students without collecting applications. For those families who may qualify for free and reduced meal pricing, you are encouraged to still complete the application in order to receive other additional benefits.

Missed Days Add Up Quickly!

  • Just a few missed days a month adds up to several school weeks missed in a year.
  • Excused and unexcused absences can make it more difficult for your child to keep up with others, especially in math and reading.
  • Kindergarten and first grade are critical. Missing school during these years makes it more difficult for children to learn later.

Learn more about the importance of attendance on the FCPS Attendance website.

If your student is going to be absent, please submit an absence using our 24/7 attendance phone line at 703-914-7272 or  complete the attendance form at

Getting to Know Your BMP Staff

Tanya Van Pool - Student Information Assistant

Tanya

This is my 2nd year at BMP, but my 4th year at FCPS. I moved to Northern Virginia in 2002 after graduating from Florida State University. In my past life, I worked in television (audience measurement and programming).

I enjoy going on trips (big Disney fan) with my husband and daughter.

Christa Luna, 1st Grade Teacher

Luna

Hi!  I am so happy to be teaching 1st Grade at BMP! My daughter’s name is Elyse and she will be in 1st Grade this year as well!

Over the last 12 years I have taught Pre-K, Kindergarten, 1st, and 3rd grade both in Texas and Oklahoma! In 2017 I received my MA in Education Administration from the University of Oklahoma and before leaving OKCPS I was a middle school Assistant Principal and a Principal at the elementary level. For the last 3 years I was the Regional Director for 2 private schools in the Ashburn area.

I am excited to return to public schools and have the opportunity to spend more time with my daughter!
