Welcome back to school Newington Forest Knights! We have had a great kick off to the school year the last two weeks.

Health Information and Emergency Care Forms

The Health Information Form and the Emergency Care Information form provide valuable information regarding student health conditions. These forms are critical in the early identification of students who may need healthcare support in the educational environment.

For SY23-24, these forms will be required for all students. They were included in each student’s Back to School packets and can also be found on the General Registration Forms page.

Starting this year, enrolling parents/guardians who have a SIS ParentVUE account may submit them electronically by using the Online Verification/Update packet

Technology News

Device agreement

Every Newington Forest student will receive an assigned device to enhance their learning experiences. Before these devices leave the school building, we kindly request your cooperation in completing the necessary paperwork.

Please ensure that the Device Agreement Form (red paper) has been signed and returned to the school. This ensures that your child can fully benefit from the technology provided in a safe and secure manner.

Grades K-2: Students in these grades will primarily use their laptops at school unless circumstances require a switch to virtual learning during the school year.

Grades 3-6: Students in these grades are expected to bring their laptops back and forth between school and home daily. To ensure your child will have a working device for learning, please make sure your child's laptop is fully charged each day.

Rest assured that our teachers are diligently reviewing device expectations and proper device care with our students, fostering responsible and effective technology use.

We greatly appreciate your support in this initiative, which will contribute to your child's educational journey. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out to our school office or our School Based Technology Specialist, Latrice Betz, lmbetz@fcps.edu.

Family Life Education Instructional Program Information

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) provides a comprehensive, sequential Family Life Education (FLE) program for students in grades kindergarten through grade twelve.  Instruction is seen as a partnership among parents and guardians, the school, and the community in supporting the learning essential to the development of strong families, positive relationships, and a healthy community.

Parents/guardians may choose to opt their child out of all or part of the Family Life Education program.  Students who are opted out are provided with age-appropriate, nonpunitive alternative health instruction, and every effort is made to foster respect for family choices.  If you wish to opt your child out of all or part of FLE for this school year, opt out forms will be included in your child’s back-to-school/orientation packets and are available online for Elementary (K-6), Middle School (7-8), and High School (9-12).  Please fill in the opt-out form and return it to your child’s school prior to Family Life Education instruction.

Detailed grade-level program descriptions are available online at Elementary (K-6) , Middle School (7-8) , and High School (9-12). FLE grade level-specific lessons and media that FCPS has streaming rights for are available for parents online in Schoology.  Parents/guardians login to Schoology using the same username and password as their Student Information System (SIS) Parent account.  Grade level-specific lessons are also available at the City of Fairfax Regional Library (this location does not have media).  Grade level-specific lessons and media that is not streamed online are available for review at your child’s school library.  Due to copyright permissions, we are unable to stream all media online.

Program questions may be addressed at your child’s school or by contacting Instructional Services at 571-423-4550 or fle@fcps.edu.
