Principal's Message
Happy 2nd week of school! We trust your students have good things to share about their classes and new classmates. As new families settle in and we are kicking off new opportunities to share for our older students, we want to make sure to get all the information to our families, so we have a section for reminders below.
In this issue:
- Student Ambassadors
- Here Comes the Bus App
- Opt Out Notice and Digital Consent
- Pot Luck & BBQ
- LightSpeed Content Filtering Software
- Upcoming Dates
- Reminders from Previous Newsletters
We look forward to seeing many of you at our PTA Potluck & BBQ tomorrow!
Sincerely, Mrs. Kirkpatrick
Student Ambassador Applications Now Open - Due 8/31
5th and 6th grade students may apply to become a student ambassador. All students should be able to identify strengths and areas in which they would like to grow as a leader. With the right support and encouragement, our Chesterbrook staff firmly believe that all students are capable to lead and support our community using many of our Portrait of a Graduate skills. We hope you will encourage your 5th or 6th grade student to apply. Students may find the Ambassador Application on schoology. Students must be logged into their FCPSschools account to complete the application.
Patrol applications are also due on 8/31. Students must complete the paper application which they will turn into their homeroom teacher by Thursday. We want to work closely with our students this school year.
Here Comes the Bus App
Thank you for your patience as we all get used to new routines this school year. We appreciate our families following Kiss and Ride procedures and being patient while waiting for your children’s buses.
If a student’s bus is delayed, parents may access the Bus Delay Notification System or use the Here Comes the Bus mobile app to receive the delayed bus report. If our Chesterbrook buses run late we try to send a text through our Talking Points system.
To make sure you receive email messages about bus delays, update your contact information in SIS ParentVUE.
Opt-Out Annual Notice due 8/31
FCPS Annual Notice of Survey, Records, Curriculum, Privacy, and Related Rights and Opt-Out Information can be found in this booklet at this link. Access the link to review detailed information about your opt-out choices which are due no later than Thursday, August 31st. Opt-outs can be completed online.
If you have no objection to the activities described in this booklet, do NOT sign or submit any of the forms.
Digital Consent
Please complete digital consent form for your child to use FCPS-approved web applications. This form allows us to begin using these applications with our classes. It is important to note that certain applications will be turned off for students without digital consent. If you have questions, please contact our school-based technology specialist, Aleia Lee, at ARLee@fcps.edu.

LightSpeed Content Filtering Software
FCPS has tools to help parents know more about their child’s activity on any FCPS device. These tools are provided at no cost to families by Lightspeed, the school division’s internet content filtering service.
Parents may sign up for a weekly Parent Report, which will provide a list of the top sites your child visited. The report also offers parents the ability to sign up for free access to the Internet Use Parent Portal. Through the portal, parents may pause their child’s access to the internet on their FCPS device during non-school hours. Learn more about Lightspeed Parent Reports.
Chesterbrook teachers piloted this classroom management software last year and we will have it available to teachers to manage student computer use.
