ACTION Needed

1. Required Forms for All Students

All students must have the following forms completed each school year. These forms can be completed online through the Online Verification Update in SIS ParentVUE.

These forms must be completed by the ENROLLING PARENT.

  • Emergency Care Form - Update on SIS ParentVUE

Information must be correct and what we will use in case of an emergency. We are asking all parents to review and update via SIS ParentVUE. If you have more than one child enrolled in FCPS, updating it for one student will update it for all of your students.  Having the most up-to-date information for all of our students is essential to our ability to best meet all students' needs in the event of an emergency.

  • Health Information Form - Update on SIS ParentVUE

health information form must be on file for all students. By updating “Current Health Conditions” and/or “Current Medical Care Details” in the emergency care form via SIS ParentVUE, this will be updated for the student.

  • Student's Rights & Responsibilities Signature Page

All students will review the SR&R in the first week of school. Every year, FCPS requires parents/guardians to review, sign, and return the SR&R parent/guardian signature page acknowledging awareness of online access to and/or the opportunity to receive a printed copy of the FCPS SR&R Guide for Families. Please acknowledge the SR&R on SIS ParentVUE.

The SR&R Booklet, can also be found on the FCPS website, along with updates to the SR&R for the 2023-24 school year.

  • Parent Digital Tool Permission
By completing this digital form, you provide permission for your child to use the FCPS-approved online tools listed as part of an instructional program.

2. Seniors Only - SAT Intent to Participate Form

This year, the test will be administered on Wednesday, October 11th.

To guarantee participation in SAT School Day exams, students must submit their online intent form by Wednesday, September 6th.

Your student will need to use an @fcpsschools.net email account to access and complete this form

FCPS sites cannot accept walk-ins on the day of the exam.

If you have questions about the SAT School Day administration at Woodson High School, please contact Kathleen Crosson at kpcrosson@fcps.edu .

NEW News

3. Message from Dr. Floyd

Dear Woodson community,

Happy Labor Day weekend! I hope the extended break allows our families to connect and have some restful time together.

As shared with our families yesterday, I will be retiring from FCPS next month.  My last day at Woodson HS will be Wednesday, September 13th. I have enjoyed the last 8 years here and it is time to explore the next phase of my career.

We have sent and will be sending several important communications to our families over the last/next few days. Please know that we are deliberate to not send more than one a day and we do try and combine messages as often as possible. We also attempt to send targeted messages to specific families whenever possible and appropriate.

Thank you for your attention to these important emails.

I hope everyone has a restful weekend,
Dr. Floyd
Principal
WoodsonConnect@fcps.edu

4. Late Buses Start Tuesday, Setember 5th

Late buses begin on Tuesday, September 5th and will continue on Tuesdays and Wednesdays through spring.

Students may stay after school to participate in clubs/activities and/or receive academic intervention with teachers.

On Tuesdays and Wednesdays, late buses will depart Woodson HS between 4:45 and 5:15pm.  Students who access the smaller bus runs need to sign up for a bus in Room F122 before lunch each day.

Please note, students may NOT go across the street to the shopping center after school and then return for the late bus. This is not appropriate nor is it safe.

5. Cav Kick-off Dance

The Cav Kick-off dance will happen on Friday, September 8th, immediately following the first home football game.

The cost of the dance is $1 and it will take place in the outdoor basketball courts near door 9. This annual tradition celebrates the opening of school and is a great way to finish off a Friday night of cheering.

The dance begins at 9:15pm or at the end of the football game (whichever comes first) and ends promptly at 11:00pm.

Admission is collected at the door.

6. Senior Parking Lot Painting

Senior Parking Lot Painting

Come paint the senior parking lot spaces on Saturday, September 9th or Saturday, September 23th from 9AM-12PM!  Showcase your style and personality while supporting your school and the Class of 2024!

The cost to paint each parking space is $10.

These are the guidelines that must be followed in order to participate. Please see the Class of 2024 Schoology site for full details.

Please send an email to dlholsinger@fcps.edu & bcwilliams@fcps.edu. to let us know which painting day you plan to attend.

7. Counselor Corner

Counselors have been working hard to settle students into classes, enroll new families, and prepare for another successful year.

Bookmark our Woodson Student Services padlet to access all of our padlets, to name a few: grade-level padlets with curriculum lessons and post-secondary planning resources, academic support padlet, social/emotional support padlet, and  academic advising padlet with graduation requirements and course planning information. With the limits on phone use, students may want to bookmark our Woodson Wellness site to utilize brain breaks during appropriate class time.

Counselors hosted Senior Parent Information Night last week. We shared helpful planning information to prepare seniors for processing college applications and planning for successfully managing their senior year and to enter their post-secondary chapter. We hosted guest speakers from the Woodson PTSO, NOVA, and CNU. Here is the Senior Night presentation if you missed it. We will speak to seniors during upcoming Learning Seminar classes to review the transcript request process, college planning support, and best next steps, including completing the IS-111 Consent form so we may release transcripts to colleges. We will highlight the resources located on the  Senior Padlet and emphasize the student-focused tasks they need to complete. Good luck to all!

Students may submit requests to change electives or move down a level (AP to Honors or Honors to AP) during the schedule change request window between 9/5-9/22. Schedule change request forms are available for students to pickup in Student Services.  Please note that change requests reviewed by administrators and approved changes are also dependent upon seat availability. Please see below for additional information regarding the schedule change request process.

8. Schedule Change Request Process

The schedule change request window for this year is from September 5th – September 22nd.

During this time, students may complete the schedule change request form, which is available for pickup in Student Services, to request a change to one of their classes. This form requires the student to document the reason for the request and what they have done to get extra help in the class, if needed. Teacher feedback on the request and signature, as well as parent signature, is also required. Once the form is completed, students should return the form to their counselor in Student Services. Students should see their counselor in Student Services to discuss potential schedule change requests, or contact them if they have any questions or need any assistance.

9. A Great School Year Starts With Mental Wellness

All FCPS high school students can access virtual therapy sessions with licensed counselors from Hazel Health at no cost.

Hazel’s therapists — who specialize in working with teens — can help students address mood/behavior changes, motivation, grief/loss, anxiety, peer and family relationships, and academic stress.

For high schoolers to participate in teletherapy services, caregivers must:

Students must be referred to therapy by a caregiver or designated school staff member.

Visit the FCPS Teletherapy webpage for more information.

Drumline Preps for Football game

Woodson's drum corps prepares for the first home football game on Friday, September 8th at 7pm.

10. Back to School Night

Back to School Night is in-person this year on Thursday, September 14th from 6-8:30pm.

At 5:30pm, School Board welcome back messages will stream in a loop in the Auditorium.

Please arrive early as parking will be tight.

11. Family Life Education (FLE) Instructional Program Information

FCPS provides a comprehensive, sequential Family Life Education (FLE) program for students in grades kindergarten through grade twelve. Instruction is seen as a partnership among parents and guardians, the school, and the community in supporting the learning essential to the development of strong families, positive relationships, and a healthy community.

Parents/guardians may choose to opt their child out of all or part of the Family Life Education program. Students who are opted out are provided with age-appropriate, nonpunitive alternative health instruction, and every effort is made to foster respect for family choices. If you wish to opt your child out of all or part of FLE for this school year, opt out forms are available online for High School (9-12). Please fill in the opt-out form and return it to Student Services prior to Family Life Education instruction.

Detailed grade-level program descriptions are available online for High School (9-12). FLE grade level-specific lessons and media that FCPS has streaming rights for are available for parents online in Schoology. Parents/guardians login to Schoology using the same username and password as their Student Information System (SIS) Parent account. Grade level-specific lessons are also available at the City of Fairfax Regional Library (this location does not have media). Grade level-specific lessons and media that is not streamed online are available for review in our school library. Due to copyright permissions, we are unable to stream all media online.

Program questions may be addressed by our Director of Student Activities, Blair Smith or by contacting Instructional Services at 571-423-4550 or fle@fcps.edu.
