Dear Spring Hill Families,
We had a fabulous first week of school. It was so wonderful seeing all of our new and returning students as they came into the building. Students have been learning routines and excited to learn! We look forward to seeing you at our Back To School Night on Tuesday.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Amy Briggs

FCPS’ Student Rights and Responsibilities document (SR&R) explains expectations for student behavior and adult responses to enhance school safety and to create a fair, equitable, and supportive school environment. In late June, the School Board approved changes to the SR&R for the 2023-24 school year. Updates include a revision of dress code expectations, bystander expectations for students witnessing harmful or unsafe behaviors, bullying, and substance abuse responses. Read Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid’s letter to families regarding the SR&R.
Parents/caregivers should talk to their child(ren) about expectations for this school year. Also, please log in to SIS ParentVUE and sign to acknowledge your review of the SR&R, or sign and return the signature sheet to your child’s school by Friday, September 29.

The Safe Community Coalition, in partnership with the Temple Rodef Shalom, is proud to host the authors of Raising A Kid Who Can, an event that is sure to help parents - and kids - start the new school year off strong!
Learn from a child psychiatrist, a parent psychologist, and a child therapist who have spent years distilling the latest parenting science and best practices to answer the complex question: Based on all that modern science has to offer, what are the most important things I should try to do in raising my kid?
This meet the authors event takes place Wed, Sept 13th at Temple Rodef Shalom (2100 Westmoreland St.). The Presentation and Q&A is 7-8:30 pm with a Book Signing immediately afterward. Books will be available for sale at the event from bookseller Politics and Prose.
More info and registration for this FREE event can be found on the Safe Community Coalition website: https://mcleanscc.org.

My name is Maryam Malik, and I am the new Family Liaison this year at Spring Hill. My family and I have been a part of the Spring Hill community since 2012, when we moved here from Kansas because of my husband’s new job. My oldest child, who is now a high school senior at Langley, started at Spring Hill in first grade, followed by our middle schooler and now the youngest of three who is a 5th grader here.
I started out as a classroom parent volunteer; signing up for field trips, class parties, being a room parent and basically helping with anything that the teachers may need. It was a good way of connecting with the community and thus being actively involved in my children’s academic careers. Spring Hill is a well-rounded experience for not only the children that enter as students but also for their families.
PTO offers many after school activities to further enrich students’ lives. Furthermore, there are social events like back-to-school night, a block party, ice cream social, bingo night, funfair and other events that serve to bring families together as a community. PTO organizes gatherings that ensure that everyone thrives. All funds raised as a result of community events are given back to the school.
Please reach out with any questions about volunteering in the school and/or information about how you can be involved and how we can support your family.
Have a successful 2023-2024 school year!
