KISS & RIDE Procedures

Please do not drop off students before 7am. Adults may not be in the building yet and this could be a safety concern for our students. When dropping off or picking up students we kindly ask you to use the Kiss & Ride lot and follow the flow of traffic to complete a full loop. Students will be dropped off / picked up at Entrance 2. The main entrance is for bus traffic only. This is for the safety of our students and it is against Virginia law to drive past school buses with flashing red lights. Thank you in advance for your support and understanding.

Parent Permission to Retest Form, Spring 2024 Standards of Learning (SOL) Tests

The Virginia Board of Education allows certain elementary and middle school students who fail Standards of Learning (SOL) tests by a narrow margin to retake the test before the end of the school year. Retesting is available when a student fails their first attempt with a score of 375-399 (where 400 is passing). Parent permission is required for any retests in grades 3-8. If you believe that your child would benefit from a second opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and skills on the SOL test, please complete this SOL Retest Permission form and submit it to the school. A decision not to allow retesting will not impact your child’s course grade or academic record.  See the notification of the testing letter at https://www.fcps.edu/node/42716

Attention families - looking for a flexible and part-time position at Poe MS? FCPS is hiring AVID tutors for the 2023-2024 school year.  AVID tutors work with small groups of approximately 5-7 students during the school day in an academic elective class called Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID). These groups use questioning strategies to help students develop a variety of college preparatory skills such as critical thinking and problem solving. Tutors earn $18.97 per hour and should either be a college graduate or currently enrolled in college. If interested, please email your resume to Lisa Shields at LBShields@fcps.edu.
