Thursday Folder Back to School

Great Start to the Year!

Dear Panda Community,

We are blown away by the amazing start to this school year already! Our students are doing a great job learning routines, building relationships, and settling into their school schedules.

We are also excited to share that our Back to School Night will be held IN-PERSON for the first time in many years. We look forward to seeing our families September 12th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. More information to come as the event gets closer.

As a quick calendar reminder, there will be NO SCHOOL Friday, September 1st and Monday, September 4th as we celebrate the Labor Day holiday. We hope you are able to enjoy wrapping up the summer with friends and family. Classes will resume as normal on Tuesday, September 5th.

We also want to invite you to take a look at these back to school messages from our School Board Representatives Stella Pekarsky, and Laura Jane Cohen

Thank you for all you do to support our pandas!

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) uses a variety of resources to support student learning. FCPS conducts the same technical evaluations for all products that use student information. In cases where FCPS contracts with a vendor to host student information, FCPS requires that the vendor adheres to the security and privacy requirements specified in a confidentiality agreement included in their contracts. FCPS does not have contracts with every instructional tool vendor. Many valuable instructional tools are governed by Terms of Service (TOS) and include both free and paid tools. Some of the digital resources your child may use this year require parental consent. Your child may use digital tools that do not collect, use or share any personal information.

👟Let Me Run Returns to GBW!

Let me Run

This is more than a running club! LMR inspires boys through the power of running to be courageous enough to be themselves, to build healthy relationships, and to live an active lifestyle. We are looking for coaches to come along side 4th-6th grades boys as they challenge some of the stereotypes of boys in our society. This is a twice-a-week commitment for just seven weeks!

If you have any questions or are interested in coaching, just contact Site Liaison Drum (mbdrum@fcps.edu).

Atha Jyothi

🏃‍♀️Asha-Jyothi 5K/Fun Run

Register and Save the Date for our Asha-Jyothi annual 5K Run/Walk on Sunday September 17th at Fairfax Corner at 8am.

To sign up, visit: https://asha-jyothi.redpodium.com/2023fairfax5kSimply enter the school coupon code “aj4schools” and select “Greenbriar West ES” from the drop down menu. A discounted price of $10 off the 5K regular price will be given to participants. Besides raising money for an important cause, it’s simply a great event that includes performances and food after the run/walk.  Asha-Jyothi will donate a large portion of the registration fees directly to GBW.  Last year GBW was able to fundraise $2300 from this one event, and we are hoping to beat this fundraising goal this year!  Have fun, get some exercise, and help GBW!

🚍 Transportation Patience
and Safety

Thank you for your patience as we all get used to new routines this school year. We appreciate our families following kiss-and-ride procedures and being patient while waiting for your children’s buses. If a student’s bus is delayed, parents/caregivers may access the Bus Delay Notification System or use the Here Comes the Bus mobile app to receive the delayed bus report. Email messages will be sent to announce significant bus delays. FCPS school district code 28982

Attend Today, Achieve Tomorrow!

The beginning of the school year is the best time to develop strong attendance habits! Students who attend school regularly are more likely to perform well in reading and math, develop strong social and emotional skills, and graduate from high school on time. Help prepare your child for future success. Visit FCPS’ Attendance web page for tips and strategies
