Principal's Message

Open House

Dear Lynbrook Families,

We are so excited to welcome our Leprechauns back to school on Monday! We have been so busy planning all summer to ensure it will be our best year to date! This letter contains some important information for the year. As you enjoy these last few days of summer break, please read through the following important information:

Teacher Assignments:

Teacher Assignments are available in ParentVue. We were super thoughtful in assignments over the summer and are confident that the student-teacher matches will be supportive.

New Lynbrook Assistant Principal:

In mid-July, Brandon Hunt was appointed the 2nd Assistant Principal position here at Lynbrook. As a former Dean of Students in Loudoun County Public Schools, he values strong relationships with students, staff and families. Brandon has seamlessly joined the rest of the Lynbrook Administration and is really looking forward to supporting our Leprechauns!

New Dean of Students:

This August, we welcomed our new Dean of Students, Sarah Trevino to Lynbrook! Sarah, is a former school counselor here in FCPS and has a wealth of experience at both the elementary and high school levels. Sarah also will be coordinating our formal MTSS team. Sarah believes in supporting all students by giving them access and opportunity through intentional Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 instruction.

Update on Assistant Principal Paredes

We are thrilled to share that Mr.Paredes and his wife welcomed their second son to the family! He is currently on paternity leave, but will be rejoining our team later in September. We wish him and his family the best during this joyful time!

On the first day of school, all students should proceed directly to their assigned classrooms. Your child will be greeted at the school doors and guided to class. Please prepare your child for this transition. Parents and guardians will not be permitted to walk students into the building to class.

Recess:

Students will have recess outside whenever possible, with their grade level. We only have indoor recess if there is a high heat advisory,  cold advisory, or raining hard. We follow FCPS guidance on this decision. Please be sure your child has weather appropriate clothing each day. Recess will be provided for at least 30 minutes each day. We will be providing equipment and students may also use our playground structures. We are required to follow strict guidelines for safety. Please do not send any toys or personal items for recess time.

Attendance:

Attendance matters! In- school learning and attendance have a profound impact on student success. Please make every effort to arrive on time and attend school daily, as your health permits. All students are strongly encouraged to be at school no later than 8:40 AM.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read through this very important information as we start the beginning of another great school year!  Please feel free to contact us with any questions.

With love and gratitude,

Transportation Patience and Safety

Thank you for your patience as we all get used to new routines this school year. We appreciate our families following kiss and ride procedures and being patient as they wait for their children’s buses.

If a student’s bus is delayed, parents may access the Bus Delay Notification System or use the Here Comes the Bus mobile app to receive the delayed bus report. Email messages will be sent to announce significant bus delays. Contact the Transportation Office at 703-466-2150 with any additional questions. For any concerns after hours (after 5:30 p.m.), contact Safety and Security at 571-423-2000.

To make sure you receive email messages about bus delays, update your contact information in SIS ParentVUE.

Free and Reduced Lunch - Apply for School Year 2023/24

As of October 31, 2022 approximately 34 percent of students in FCPS qualify for free and reduced-price meals. The prices for paid breakfast and lunch are determined by the School Board and the price of reduced-price meals are established by the federal government.

Families who earn less than 130 percent of the poverty level are eligible for free meals and those with incomes between 130 and 185 percent of poverty level qualify for reduced-price meals.

  • The free and reduced-price meals application includes an online option for parents to submit the information electronically for faster processing. Please use this link, https://www.myschoolapps.com/Application, to apply online. The online free and reduced-price meals application is available in multiple languages.

Annual Notice of Survey, Records, Curriculum, Privacy, and Related Rights

Fairfax County Public Schools wants all parents to understand its policies regarding surveys, records, curriculum, privacy, and related rights.

In its Annual Notice of Survey, Records, Curriculum, Privacy, and Related Rights and Opt-Out Forms (Annual Notice), FCPS provides explanations of the rights listed above as well as forms that may be used to exercise opt-out choices. Two versions of the Annual Notice are available — a grades K-8 version and a grades 9-12 version. Parents with children at different grade levels should read each applicable version of the Annual Notice because the notices and opt-out rights vary depending on the student’s grade level.

Get more information and view the 2023-24 Opt-Out Booklets.

Update Contact Information to Receive Messages From FCPS

Be among the first to know about weather closings, bus delays, and other critical communications from FCPS and our school by providing your cell phone number and email in SIS ParentVUE. Make sure you complete the Emergency Care Form for your child every year and update when necessary.

To update your contact information in ParentVUE, click the “Online Packets” tab in the upper right of the screen, then select the “Online Verification/Update” form in the drop down menu. Click “Begin Packet.”

Parents who do not have a SIS ParentVUE account continue to have the option to communicate updates via the normal paper process. They can also print and complete a blank Emergency Care Information Form needed for updates and submit it to the front office.

What Is Schoology?

Teachers use Schoology to post their classroom materials online; to provide a secure forum for students to discuss their ideas and collaborate on projects; and to assign and collect homework electronically. It helps students stay organized and it keeps the class connected.

A Schoology Parent Account gives you access to:

  • Your child’s classes.
  • Your child’s upcoming assignments.
  • School, class, and group announcements.

Parent accounts will be available after August 21. To access Schoology, parents will need to have an active SIS/ParentVUE account. More information on how to login and use Schoology is available online.
