Monday, August 21, is the first day of school for the 2023-24 school year! See the complete school year calendar.
Students may arrive on campus at 9:00.
On the first day, students and parents may proceed directly to the classrooms. Our school day will start promptly at 9:20, and at this time any parents remaining will need to say their goodbyes.
If you are taking your child to class on the first day, cars must be parked in designated parking spaces only and not left unattended in the kiss and ride loop or the bus loop.
On Tuesday, our regular procedures will begin.
9:00 - Students may arrive and proceed to gym or cafeteria (if having breakfast).
9:10 - First bell and students proceed to classroom.
9:20 - School day starts and if students are not already in the classroom at this time, they are considered tardy.
4:05 - Dismissal.
4:15 - School bus scheduled departure.
All parents/visitors must check in at the office. Visits to teachers/staff need to be pre-arranged and then confirmed by office staff upon arrival.
All kindergarten and any other new families are invited to our annual Boo Hoo Breakfast in the cafeteria on the first day of school (Monday, August 21, 9:20am) immediately after dropping your child off.
Join us for coffee, fruit, and Chick-fil-a breakfast sandwiches courtesy of our sponsor, Northern Virginia Orthodontics, and meet returning SVES parents!
Questions? Contact Jennifer Glynn.
Returning parents, sign up here to join us for breakfast and welcome new families.
Thank you for your patience as we all get used to new routines this school year.
If a student’s bus is delayed, parents may access the Bus Delay Notification System or use the Here Comes the Bus mobile app to receive the delayed bus report. Email messages will be sent to announce significant bus delays. Contact the Transportation Office at [703-249-7100] with any additional questions. For any concerns after hours (after 5:30 p.m.), contact Safety and Security at 571-423-2000.
To make sure you receive email messages about bus delays, update your contact information in SIS ParentVUE.
If driving up Cross School Rd. from Sunrise Valley Rd., the kiss and ride entrance is the third driveway entrance to the school. This is the only designated drop off and pick up area for car riders.
Please do not use the lower lot or drive into the bus loop.
In the morning you may enter the loop with either a right or left turn.
The kiss and ride doors will open at 9:00 when staff will be on site to welcome our students. Drive in the loop all the way around until door 9. Staff will direct you to the designated drop off/ pick up zone.
Students may only exit on the curb side, the right side of the car.
Drivers and other passengers must remain in the car and not exit to open doors as the loop has two-way traffic flow.
With the younger children have them practice buckling in and out and opening/ closing the door.
Dismissal at Kiss & Ride
Entrance to Kiss and Ride will be by right turn only during dismissal (see picture).
If you are driving up Cross School Road from Sunrise Valley Drive, you will pass the Kiss and Ride entrance and make a U-turn at Midsummer Drive (please do not use residential driveways to turn around). Traffic for entrance into Kiss and Ride will then queue on the right-hand side of Cross School Road.
Thank you for your cooperation with these procedures. The first few weeks of school arrival and dismissal will take considerable time so please plan and be patient as it will become more efficient and improve significantly.

Be among the first to know about weather closings, bus delays, and other critical communications from FCPS by providing your cell phone number and email in SIS ParentVUE. Make sure you complete the Emergency Care Form for your child every year and update when necessary.
To update your contact information in ParentVUE, click the “Online Packets” tab in the upper right of the screen, then select the “Online Verification/Update” form in the drop down menu. Click “Begin Packet.”
Parents who do not have a SIS ParentVUE account continue to have the option to communicate updates to their student’s school via the normal paper process. They can also print and complete a blank Emergency Care Information Form needed for updates and submit it to their student’s school.
