Good afternoon Franklin Families,
We are so excited to welcome our students for the first day of school this Monday, August 21! It was wonderful seeing so many students and families yesterday at our Open House. This morning in our staff meeting we shared how important events such as this are in building strong school and community relationships. We are excited to partner with you all this year to ensure every student thrives at Franklin Middle School. I also am so appreciative for the opportunity to connect with families at my first Parent Coffee this past Wednesday. I look forward to connecting with all of our families in future events.
I also want to take a moment to introduce you to our newest member of the Franklin Middle School community, Ms. Danna Hailfinger. Danna is joining us as our new Director of Student Services and brings a wealth of experience to our school community. She most recently served as an Instructional Coach at Key Middle School and previously was the IB Coordinator at Hughes Middle School and a classroom teacher in neighboring school districts. Today is her first official day and I look forward to her meeting you all in the coming weeks and Back to School Night. Welcome, Danna!
I would encourage all of you to review the information at the bottom of this message with your student, including the updated FCPS cell phone policy. You will find several important reminders that will help us have a successful first week of the school year.
I hope you have a restful weekend and look forward to seeing all of our students Monday morning! As always, please reach out to me with questions or concerns at MLCase@fcps.edu. It’s going to be a fantastic year!
Sincerely,
Michelle Case
Interim Principal

Transportation Information
As we prepare for children to come to school and go home on buses this fall, we ask you to be aware of possible adjustments to routes and scheduling. Franklin MS will keep you informed of changes as soon as information is available. Your patience and understanding as we make adjustments is appreciated. Franklin MS and FCPS are working hard to address the need for drivers and plan for transportation in a way that has the least impact on students. Find out more about bus routes on the FCPS website and download the Here Comes the Bus mobile app.
Please call the Area 3 Transportation Office at: (703) 249-7000 with questions about transportation for your student or to report late buses.
Parents/guardians are encouraged to review their Parent Vue account in Student Information System (SIS) for updated bus route assignment information before the first day of school on Monday in the event their have been updates or changes.
Student Medication
Parents and guardians of students who are attending Franklin MS need to bring medication to our Health Room. As a reminder, students may not carry medication during the school day. Please click here for information on School Health Services and a link to medication authorization forms. Please contact our School Health Aide, Donna Long, with any questions.
Franklin MS Procedures for Families
As you are making the transition to middle school, please review the Franklin MS Procedures for Families to ensure that all students are safe and accounted for each school day and to minimize disruption of classroom instructional time. Please visit our website for more information.
FCPSOn Laptop Distribution
Laptop distribution will occur on Wednesday or Thursday in your student’s PE class. Additionally, student passwords often expire during the summer. All students will reset their passwords when they get their FCPS Laptops during the first week of school.
Submit the Digital Consent Form
Each year, parents must provide digital consent before students can access all of the online tools that are approved by FCPS. Please complete the online digital consent form. You will log in with the same username and password that you use for ParentVUE. If you do not know your password, choose the “forgot password” link from SIS ParentVUE. If you need an activation key to activate your account, request an activation key here.
Update Contact Information to Receive Messages From FCPS
Be among the first to know about weather closings, bus delays, and other critical communications from FCPS and our school by providing your cell phone number and email in SIS ParentVUE. Make sure you complete the Emergency Care Form for your child every year and update when necessary.
To update your contact information in ParentVUE, click the “Online Packets” tab in the upper right of the screen, then select the “Online Verification/Update” form in the drop down menu. Click “Begin Packet.”
Parents who do not have a SIS ParentVUE account continue to have the option to communicate updates via the normal paper process. They can also print and complete a blank Emergency Care Information Form needed for updates and submit it to the front office.
Annual Notice of Survey, Records, Curriculum, Privacy, and Related Rights
Fairfax County Public Schools wants all parents to understand its policies regarding surveys, records, curriculum, privacy, and related rights.
In its Annual Notice of Survey, Records, Curriculum, Privacy, and Related Rights and Opt-Out Forms (Annual Notice), FCPS provides explanations of the rights listed above as well as forms that may be used to exercise opt-out choices. Two versions of the Annual Notice are available — a grades K-8 version and a grades 9-12 version. Parents with children at different grade levels should read each applicable version of the Annual Notice because the notices and opt-out rights vary depending on the student’s grade level.
Get more information and view the 2023-24 Opt-Out Booklets.
