Dear Island Creek Families,
We look forward to welcoming students and families tomorrow to Island Creek's annual Back to School Extravaganza!
Sincerely,
Jen Fallert, Principal
Karen Baxter, Assistant Principal
Families who need to drop off medication for their child may do so during our Back to School Extravaganza on Thursday, August 17 from 8:30-4:00. Mediciation must be given to Nancy Hertzog, our Public Health Nurse, or Yuri Campos, our School Health Aid. FCPS policy does not permit medication to be dropped off with any other staff members other than the Public Health Nurse or School Health Aid.
Parents/caregivers need to provide their students with money to purchase meals at school, send them with a packed lunch, or apply (and be approved) for free and reduced-price meals benefits. School breakfast for students costs $1.75. Lunch is $3.25 for elementary students and $3.50 for middle, secondary, and high school students.
Free and Reduced-Price Meals
The application for free and reduced-priced meals is now available for the 2023-24 school year. Students who were approved for free and reduced-price lunch last year are eligible for the first 30 days of school this year (or until a new application is processed). Families should re-apply as soon as possible for the 2023-24 school year, so eligible students continue to receive meals at no cost.
Paying With MySchoolBucks
The best way to purchase meals (and keep food lines moving!) is to use MySchoolBucks. Set up your student’s MySchoolBucks account today. Our front office staff can help with any questions.
MySchoolBucks accounts can be set up to add money to the account automatically, as needed. Families with multiple children can use the same MySchoolBucks account. Visit FCPS’ Food and Nutrition webpage for more information.
Island Creek Staff Members will be available to help students find their classroom on the first day of school, Monday, August 21. Doors to school will open at 8:20 a.m, and school officially begins at 8:35 a.m.
Because of our concern for safety and our desire to begin establishing important routines on the first day of school, we do not allow parents to walk children to classrooms on the first day of school, with the exception of our kindergarten students and new to Island Creek students.
Parents of returning students in Grades 1 – 6, please say “goodbye” at the front door. We will have plenty of staff on hand to help your child find their classroom once they are inside the building. We appreciate your understanding as to why we have this policy.
