Mantua Open House

Mantua is excited to announce and welcome you to our annual Open House on August 17, 2023!  This year, the format of Open House has changed.  We are welcoming families at specific times based Alphabetically by their last name, not by grade level as in previous years. *Please note that Pre-School Orientation will be on a different date and time.  More information on Pre-School Open House will be forthcoming.

What is Rocky's Resource Fair?

Rocky's Resource Fair is an (optional) time for families to come to further understand all of what Mantua has to offer, before meeting teachers and instructional staff.  Tables will be set up for families to learn more about many resources, among them:

  • The Mantua PTA
  • The Mantua Cafeteria (Lunchbucks, menus, etc.)
  • Mantua's Family Liaison
  • Troubleshooting student technology w/ Mantua SBTS (School-based Technology Specialist)
  • Understanding Mantua's system for digital dismissal, Pick-Up Patrol (PUP)
  • Fairfax County School Age Child Care (SACC)
  • Community Scouts Program
  • Meet the Mantua Mental Health Staff

Who can families visit during their 30-minute classroom time?

In addition to your child's teacher(s), we welcome families to visit the following staff.

  • Specialist Teachers (PE, Music, Art, FLES, Library)
  • Mantua's Advanced Academics Resource Teacher (AART)
  • Mantua's English to Speakers of Other Languages Teachers (ESOL)
  • Mantua's School Counselors
  • The Mantua Clinic
  • The Mantua Front Office

What else do I need to know?

  • We are asking that all those families that attend the Rocky Resource Fair, proceed to their classrooms through the gym.  Families attending Open House during their Classroom Visit Time only will enter through Door 2 (Kiss and Ride Door).  Signage will be posted.
  • We are asking that all families exit out Door 1 (Main Door, Bus Loop).  Signage will be posted.
  • Mantua Staff members will be stationed throughout the school to give out maps and help usher you to where you are supposed to be.
  • Maps will be available for use, and signage will be posted throughout the building.

What if I can't attend?

For families that cannot attend, teachers will connect via phone or video conference if preferred.  Classroom teachers will make arrangements for these, and will be completed before the start of the first week of school.

Class Placement Letters

Teachers will reach out via email to introduce themselves on August 16th at 4:00 PM.  Your child’s teacher will also be posted in your ParentVUE account the following day.  Please know that many factors were weighed in making class grouping decisions, including teacher, counselor, administration, and parent input solicited in the spring. Class placements were developed by a multidisciplinary team, including grade-level teachers. The academic and social-emotional needs of the students across the grade level, services students require, staffing, balanced class sizes, and assessment data were all considerations.  It is challenging and essential work, and we appreciate your continued support as we make decisions to serve all Mantua students to the best of our ability.
