12th Grade Immunization Requirement Notice
The Code of Virginia requires all students to be immunized against certain communicable diseases prior to entrance into Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS).
All students entering 12th grade will be required to receive one dose of Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY) prior to the beginning of school.
● To meet the Meningococcal (MenACWY) 12th grade requirement, the vaccination must be administered at age 16 or older.
ACTION REQUESTED: Please provide one of the following immunization documents to Glenda Giroux, Student Information Assistant (SIA), Langley HS as soon as possible:
- An updated immunization record showing that the student has received the Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY).
- A note on a healthcare provider’s letterhead stating the date the Meningococcal vaccine was given.
- A healthcare provider’s written statement of a permanent or temporary medical exemption.
4. A notarized Religious Exemption Form, which is available online at: https://bit.ly/VDOEReligiousExemptionForm
Immunizations are available from your child’s healthcare provider, the Fairfax County Health Department, or other community resources.
Please contact Glenda Giroux at ggiroux@fcps.edu or 703-287-2725 if you have any questions.
Greetings from your School Health Room!
Our goal is to ensure that your student will enjoy a healthful, safe school year. Please read the following information carefully, and if you have any questions feel free to call your School Public Health Nurse, Mary Joan Shea, RN, at 571-722-5780.
The health room will be open to drop-off of medications on Thursday, August 17 from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. or may be dropped off after the start of school Monday – Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 2:45 p.m.
All medications are required to have a medication authorization. We cannot accept medication that has expired.
Asthma inhalers are now required to come with the Virginia Asthma Action Plan completed by your student's doctor as well as an Authorization for Virginia Asthma Action Plan to be completed by parents and students.

Emergency Care Form
Your School Health Room services include:
- Care of sick and injured students according to school guidelines.
- Hearing and vision screening (grades K, 3, 7, 10, new to FCPS schools and those students referred by teachers and parents).
- Administration of care for students with identified problems/conditions during the school day.
- Coordination of care for students with identified problems/conditions during the school day.
How can you help your School Health Room provide the best possible care?
- Advise the School Health Aide and Public Health Nurse of any special health concerns.
- Immediately notify the PE teacher if your child has any PE restrictions.
- Provide current home, work, and alternate telephone numbers for the Emergency Care Information form. Generally, a student may remain in the clinic for 15 minutes. After that, if he or she is still feeling ill, parents will be called to take the student home.
- Keep sick children home. It is difficult to concentrate or do schoolwork when not feeling well.
- Children who have fevers (temperature of 100.4 degrees), vomiting or diarrhea are not able to remain in school. It is best for children to be at home for 24 hours after these conditions resolve.
- When medication must be administered during the school day, follow the medication policies.
- Complete the FCPS Medication Authorization form.
- Provide the school with properly labeled containers (your pharmacist will usually provide an extra container if you request it).
- Medications must be transported to and from school by a parent.
- Medications must be kept in the school Health Room or other school approved location.
Thank you for your cooperation and assistance in helping to make this a safe and healthy school year for all FCPS students.

Technology Information | Chromebook
All students will have the option to check-out a Fortis 14 inch G10 Chromebook to use for instruction. Laptops will be handed out on the 1st and 2nd day of school during English class. Students must follow the FCPS Device Use Guidelines for these devices. Resources to help students get familiar with using a Chromebook will be available in the Langley HS Student Schoology course. Support for these devices will also be outlined in our Langley HS Student Schoology course.
If students would prefer to bring their own device and that device meets our minimum requirements, they may do so. BYOD students should not take an FCPS laptop. The Langley HS technology team will provide an FCPS device for testing as needed to cover students who are not assigned a Langley device. FCPS strives to be good stewards of our taxpayer funds, while also minimizing our longer-term environmental impact. Making sure FCPS devices are being used where they are truly needed is crucial to that stewardship.
ALL students should be aware that they are expected to adhere to the Acceptable Use Policy for Student Network Access outlined FCPS Student Rights and Responsibilities at Langley High School.
Class of 2024 - Senior Night! August 29th at 6:30pm
We look forward to connecting with our senior families to discuss how we support students here at Langley HS through the post-secondary planning process. Both parents and students are encouraged to attend. More information will be coming out next week.
